Human rights activists have accused India of illegally deporting hundreds of Muslims into Bangladesh without legal proceedings. Most affected are Muslims from West Bengal, sparking fear and outrage in the community.
Though Indian authorities claim these are undocumented migrants, reports suggest that even Indian citizens and Rohingya refugees are being forcibly pushed into Bangladesh. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has returned at least 100 individuals and claims that over 1,600 have been pushed in unlawfully.
Victims allege coercion by India's Border Security Force (BSF), with some saying they were forced at gunpoint to cross the border. AFP has corroborated parts of the report.
