A protest march was held in Sunamganj’s Jaua Bazar on Thursday night following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Manch. Participants chanted slogans demanding justice and condemning the circumstances surrounding his death. The march concluded with a brief rally where speakers called for a transparent investigation into Hadi’s killing.
Hadi, who was a potential candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming national election, was shot last Friday during campaign activities. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later moved to Evercare Hospital’s ICU. Despite being flown to Singapore for advanced treatment, his condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead on Thursday night. Local leaders, including former Jaua Bazar Business Association president Asadur Rahman Asad and several religious figures, attended the protest.
The incident has sparked political and social tension ahead of the national polls, with calls for accountability and heightened security for candidates. Authorities have yet to release details of the investigation or identify suspects.
