Bangladesh has expressed deep sorrow over deaths and widespread damage caused by sudden floods and landslides in Nepal, and said it is ready to provide all possible assistance for rescue and relief operations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the position in a press release on Wednesday, saying Dhaka is closely monitoring the severe situation in Nepal.

The ministry said hundreds of people are missing in Nepal and that further fatalities, including among tourists, are feared. The Bangladesh government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and the people of Bangladesh conveyed solidarity with the Nepalese government and its people during the crisis.

Dhaka offered condolences to the families of those killed and wished for the speedy rescue of missing people and recovery of those injured. It also expressed hope for the prompt rehabilitation of affected communities. Reaffirming its solidarity, Bangladesh said it stands prepared to extend all possible support to Nepal in relief and rescue efforts as operations continue there.
