Students will be admitted to eleventh grade in the coming academic year on the basis of SSC and equivalent examination results, according to a proposal sent to the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the education ministry. Applications will again be received centrally online, while admissions will be conducted according to merit and applicants’ preference order. Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee President and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Syed Akteruzzaman disclosed the information on Monday.

Akteruzzaman said there would be no major change in the admission process this time. The committee has sent a draft policy to the ministry retaining the previous system of admission based on results or marks. SSC and equivalent examination results are scheduled to be published on August 10. The release had initially been planned for July 20 but was postponed because education boards had not completed preparations.

Successful candidates will enroll in eleventh grade during the current academic year. While higher-secondary colleges and madrasas will use result-based admissions, church-run colleges such as Notre Dame College and Holy Cross College will hold admission tests under an earlier court directive. More than 2.6 million seats are available nationwide, compared with over 1.857 million SSC and equivalent candidates.
