A Dhaka court rejected an application to show former Major Md Sadikul Haque, known as Major Sadik, arrested in a terrorism law case over a private car fire in the capital’s Bhatara area. Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam issued the order after a hearing on Sunday afternoon, August 16. His lawyer, Al Amin, said there would be no obstacle to his release if no other case remained against him.
Bhatara police sub-inspector Chand Ali, the investigating officer, had applied on August 7 to show Sadik arrested in the case. At a hearing on August 10, the defence argued that he was in jail when the incident occurred. The court sought an explanation from Bhatara police officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam and the investigating officer, who later submitted written explanations claiming investigators found information of Sadik’s direct and indirect involvement.
The case concerns a fire set on Monir Hossain’s private car near Bitumin Gate on November 11, 2025, with 20 to 25 unidentified people accused. The written explanation also alleged that Sadik arranged secret meetings and training sessions. His lawyer said Sadik was jailed in another terrorism law case and recently received bail from the High Court.
