Activist Nila Israfil has expressed doubts over who was responsible for the killing of students during recent protests, saying it remains unclear whether the deaths were caused by police under Sheikh Hasina’s orders or by religious leaders (“Hujurs”) to emotionally manipulate the public. She said had ordinary citizens known religious groups were involved in a preplanned movement, many—including herself—would not have joined.
