Police have arrested three hired killers in connection with the murder of Zahidul Alam Jahangir, the former president of the Mitamain Upazila unit of the BNP in Kishoreganj. The arrests were made in Dhaka on Wednesday night. The detainees were identified as Helal, son of the late Sultan from Barguna’s Bamna area, and two others named Mohiuddin and Zakir.

According to police and local sources, the attack occurred around 10 p.m. on Wednesday in Kamalpur Beribandh area of Mitamain. Jahangir was attacked in front of his home by three assailants armed with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Another local BNP leader, Hadis Mia, was also wounded while trying to intervene. Both victims were taken to Mitamain Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital, where Jahangir was declared dead at 11 p.m.

Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said initial findings suggest the attackers came from Dhaka and were involved in the killing. Police have intensified surveillance and are investigating the motive, which may be linked to political rivalry.
