Bangladesh’s Local Government Division has instructed relevant authorities to take measures preventing four city corporation officials from leaving the country while corruption investigations continue. Published on August 5, the report said the action followed information that the officials might secretly depart Bangladesh before the investigations are completed.

The officials are Dhaka South City Corporation mechanical department supervising engineer Md Anisur Rahman; additional chief engineer Kazi Mohammad Borhan Uddin, formerly with Dhaka South and now transferred to Barishal City Corporation; and Chattogram City Corporation supervising engineer Mohammad Shaheen-ul Islam Chowdhury and executive engineer Farzana Mukta. Shaheen-ul Islam and Mukta are married. Transfer orders had sent them to Mymensingh and Rangpur city corporations, respectively.

The City Corporation-1 branch sent a confidential letter on July 26, signed by Joint Secretary Md Robiul Islam, to the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, police Special Branch, police Immigration Branch and the Department of Immigration and Passports. It requested that all immigration checkpoints be informed. The letter included names, positions, permanent addresses, passport-related information and passport copies, and cited ongoing investigations into corruption allegations.
