Students of Rajshahi University blocked the railway line near the campus’s Fine Arts area on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, protesting the alleged assault of a student by train ticket examiners (TTIs). The incident reportedly occurred around 3 a.m. Monday night on the Padma Express when law student Forkan Uddin objected to TTIs collecting money from passengers without issuing receipts. He alleged that six to seven TTIs took him between two compartments, beat him on the neck and back, and tried to push him out of the train window.

The protesters demanded punishment for the accused, permanent dismissal for corruption, legal action for attempted murder, compensation for the victim, and mandatory train stops at Rajshahi University station. The Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RACSU) expressed concern, supported the protest, and reiterated the same four-point demand. University authorities acknowledged the incident and said they were working to resolve the issue through discussion with both sides.

Rail communication between Rajshahi and the rest of the country remained suspended as students vowed to continue the blockade until their demands were met.
