A Dhaka court on Thursday, 27 August, deferred submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi for the 129th time. Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman set 30 September as the next date after the investigating officer, Police Bureau of Investigation additional superintendent Md Azizul Haque, did not submit the report.
The case names Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Masum Mintu, Kamrul Islam alias Arun, Abu Sayeed, two security guards at the couple’s home, Palash Rudra Pal and Enayet Ahmed, and their friend Tanvir Rahman Khan. Tanvir and Palash are on bail, while the others are in custody.
Sagar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed on 11 February 2012. Runi’s brother Nawsher Alam Roman filed the murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station. The investigation later moved from police to DB, then RAB, before a High Court-directed four-member task force led by the PBI chief was formed.
