The High Court has granted bail to former Chief Justice A.B.M. Khairul Haque in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of unlawfully receiving a plot. The bench of Justice Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain and Justice Md Zakir Hossain issued the order on Wednesday. According to his lawyer Monayem Nabi Shaheen, there are currently no legal barriers to Haque’s release from custody.
Senior lawyers Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, Mostafizur Rahman Khan, Motahar Hossain Saju, and Monayem Nabi Shaheen represented Haque in the bail hearing. Earlier, on Sunday, the High Court had granted him bail in four other cases related to alleged verdict forgery and the killing of a Jubo Dal activist during the July Movement. The state later appealed to the Appellate Division to suspend those bail orders, which are now pending hearing in the chamber court.
Haque was arrested on July 24 of the previous year from his Dhanmondi residence and shown arrested in multiple cases, including those filed in Shahbagh and Narayanganj over alleged forged judgments concerning the caretaker government verdict.
