A man named Sujon Mia, aged 22, allegedly killed his wife, 20-year-old Samina Akter Sammi, early Monday morning in the Sheikhhati Tamaltala area of Jashore Sadar upazila. Police said the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when Sujon, reportedly addicted to drugs, attacked Sammi with a sharp knife following an argument over money for drugs. After the attack, Sujon stabbed himself in the chest in an apparent suicide attempt and was later hospitalized in critical condition.
According to Sammi’s uncle and family sources, the couple had married four months earlier without informing their parents after a long romantic relationship. Sammi later discovered Sujon’s drug addiction, which led to frequent quarrels and physical abuse. She had been trying to help him recover and had arranged for his travel abroad, with a flight to Malaysia scheduled for Monday.
Police confirmed that the murder was linked to Sujon’s drug addiction. Sammi’s body was sent for autopsy, and preparations for a murder case are underway. Sujon’s parents have been taken into custody for initial questioning.
