Iran has intensified diplomatic contacts with several Muslim countries amid heightened tensions with the United States, according to a report published on August 2, 2026. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate telephone conversations with Pakistan army chief Asim Munir, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The talks addressed regional conditions and the risk of further escalation.

Tehran urged Washington to refrain from any military action. Araghchi warned that any attack on Iran’s sovereignty or national security would receive a “strong and specific” response. Iranian parliamentarian Ebrahim Rezaei said a response to an attack would not be confined to the Persian Gulf region and would target enemy bases or the source of attacks wherever they were located.

Following those warnings, US President Donald Trump announced that a possible military attack on Iran had been cancelled, conditional on reaching a rapid agreement with Tehran. Earlier US media reports had said Washington was preparing for a major attack later in the week. Iran’s Foreign Ministry also accused the United States of violating a ceasefire through actions in the Strait of Hormuz and alleged further sanctions, a naval blockade and renewed airstrikes.
