Police arrested three leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League over an alleged attempt to carry out sabotage on a highway in Bahubal, Habiganj. The arrests were made early Sunday near Mirpur Cherag Ali Filling Station in the upazila, according to police.
Police said several banned Chhatra League leaders and activists had gathered on the highway with the intention of sabotage under the leadership of former upazila Chhatra League general secretary Nazrul Islam Helal. Bahubal Model Police Station launched an operation after receiving information about the gathering. Helal, 31, Chhatra League leader Mostakim Ahmed Raj, 23, and Abdul Aziz, 48, were arrested during the operation.
Bahubal Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ruhul Amin Talukdar confirmed the matter. He said the three detainees were shown arrested in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act and were sent to court.
