Students and local residents in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila staged a late-night protest on Thursday following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Manch and a potential parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-8. The demonstrators lit fires at the Dakbangla three-road junction, chanting slogans demanding the immediate arrest and execution of those responsible for Hadi’s killing.
According to local witnesses, the protest began shortly after news spread that Hadi had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. The gathering drew dozens of participants, including student leaders Ishak Ali, Tarikul Islam, Najib, and Israfil. Protesters vowed not to let Hadi’s death go unpunished, emphasizing his role as a political activist and community figure.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the investigation into Hadi’s death. The incident underscores rising political tensions in the region ahead of the upcoming national elections, with observers warning that further unrest could follow if justice demands remain unmet.
