Residents, relatives and political colleagues gave a tearful final farewell to Mohammad Salahuddin, a member of Bonarpara Union Islami Chhatra Shibir in Saghata, Gaibandha. His funeral prayer was held at 8:30am on Sunday at Bonarpara Government Kazi Azhar Ali Government Model High School field. Salahuddin died at about 7:45am on Saturday after receiving treatment for 48 days.
Those attending the funeral included Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central secretary general Professor Mumtaz Uddin, Gaibandha-5 lawmaker Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Warech, and Gaibandha district Jamaat amir and Sadar constituency lawmaker Abdul Karim. Salahuddin's father Shamsul Huda Dudu, district and upazila-level Shibir and Jamaat leaders, and other local figures also attended.
According to the report, Salahuddin and Shibir leader Saifullah Bari were attacked at Bonarpara intersection on June 21 after a dispute over forming a school managing committee. Salahuddin was stabbed, while Saifullah Bari was also stabbed and later declared dead. Salahuddin was initially taken to hospitals in Gaibandha and Bogura before being admitted to a hospital in Dhaka as his condition worsened.
