A UK expatriate’s family in Sylhet has accused a local Chhatra League leader of trying to illegally occupy their house. The expatriate’s sister filed a complaint with the Sylhet Police Commissioner, alleging that the tenant—backed by the student leader—refused to vacate and instead demanded a $500,000 extortion payment. She claimed that the group issued threats when the demand was rejected. The Police Commissioner has ordered an investigation, directing the Deputy Police Commissioner to submit a report within 15 days. Despite repeated notices, the accused individuals have not complied, prompting authorities to consider stricter action.
