A tense situation has gripped Rahmat Nagar village in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram after a series of police raids and the death of a woman following a local clash between two groups. The conflict began on July 1 near the SKM Jute Mill gate between groups led by Riaz Uddin Raju and Sabbir Hossain, resulting in injuries and cross-complaints at Sitakunda Police Station. Police later launched raids to arrest suspects, including late-night operations on July 4 and 10. During the July 10 raid, a woman reportedly fell ill from panic and was declared dead at the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex.

Relatives of the deceased claim her death was caused by fear and stress during the raid, while police state she had pre-existing respiratory issues. Local residents allege police misconduct and excessive force, but officers involved have not provided comments. Sitakunda BNP leaders said the dispute was personal, not political, and called for a fair investigation.

Chattogram’s Superintendent of Police assured that a committee will investigate the incident and take action if any police negligence or irregularity is found. The area remains tense as residents await the inquiry’s findings.
