Police in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari arrested Barek Sheikh on suspicion of arranging the murder of his brother, Faruk Sheikh, a 46-year-old tea seller. Faruk was found with his throat cut inside his home in the Jamtala area on Saturday afternoon. Their father, Khalek Sheikh, filed a murder case at Goalanda Ghat police station.
At a Sunday 5:30pm press conference at the Rajbari police superintendent’s office, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Haque said Barek told police that he hired colleagues Alamgir and Rubel for 3,000 taka to kill his brother. Police identified Barek, described as the youngest and third of four brothers, as the alleged main planner.
Police said Barek had allegedly planned the killing over greed for money saved by their father and anger over Faruk’s alleged poor behaviour toward their parents. During the operation, officers recovered two bloodstained sharp machetes believed to have been used in the killing, along with bloodstained vests and trousers, from a rubbish heap beside the house. Three arrested suspects were sent to court.
