BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has pledged to fully implement all commitments made in the July Charter and to expand the party’s 31-point reform agenda. He made the remarks on Friday, February 13, during a discussion with journalists at his residence in Thakurgaon. Fakhrul said the July Charter, signed through the reform commission, will guide the party’s next steps and reaffirmed that BNP’s recent landslide victory reflected the people’s trust and affection.
He stated that BNP has always been a people-oriented party that never lost popularity and will now focus on fulfilling the July Charter’s pledges. Fakhrul also mentioned that the interim government announced plans to form a new administration by February 15. Addressing political developments, he blamed the previous 15 years of authoritarian rule for the rise of Jamaat-e-Islami, arguing that suppression of democracy and opposition parties under the Awami League created space for extremist forces.
The BNP leader’s comments come as the party prepares to return to government after two decades, with Jamaat now positioned as the main opposition.
