Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan’s home in Magura was vandalised and its steel gate set on fire after he allegedly spoke at a virtual event with Sheikh Hasina, according to police. The incident took place on the night of August 5, when an agitated crowd arrived on several motorcycles, threw bricks and stones, and damaged the property before using petrol to ignite the gate.

Magura Sadar police station officer-in-charge Abdul Al Mamun said the attack occurred at about 9:30pm. Police went to the scene immediately after receiving the report, and the situation is now normal, he said.

Shakib was elected a member of parliament from the Magura-1 constituency in 2024 as an Awami League candidate. The report also states that a murder case related to the July movement has been filed against him in Dhaka. It does not identify the attackers, specify the extent of damage, or report any arrests in connection with the incident.
