Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that the blood of the July martyrs will never go in vain, describing the spirit of the July uprising as both a source of national pride and inspiration for building the future. In a message issued on Wednesday ahead of the historic July Martyrs’ Day on Thursday, he paid deep respect, sorrow, and gratitude to those who died during the 2024 anti-fascist movement.

The Prime Minister recalled that on July 16, 2024, at least six people, including Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed and Chattogram college student Mohammad Wasim Akram, were killed by police gunfire during protests that evolved from quota reform demands into a movement against fascism. He said the uprising united the nation against oppression, corruption, and the denial of voting rights, ultimately forcing the autocratic ruler to flee the country.

Rahman emphasized that the government remains committed to honoring the martyrs’ sacrifice by strengthening democracy and building a safe, humane, and self-reliant Bangladesh. He prayed for the souls of the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the uprising.
