Bangladesh women’s cricket team has suffered a setback before the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup and the 20th Asian Games, with 23-year-old left-arm pacer Fariha Islam Trishna ruled out of both tournaments because of a thigh injury. Seventeen-year-old right-arm pacer Farzana Yasmin has received her first national-team call-up as her replacement.

Bangladesh Cricket Board sources said Trishna had been suffering from an injury to her right thigh. An MRI examination recently detected a Grade-2 tear, and doctors and the medical team have assessed that she will need at least four to six weeks to make a full recovery and return to the field.

Trishna will therefore miss the Asia Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The selection committee chose Farzana, who has yet to make her international debut, for the squad. Bangladesh’s women’s team is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Dubai tomorrow to take part in the Asia Cup main stage.
