Jahangirnagar University authorities have temporarily expelled 12 students from the Department of History following allegations of ragging against freshmen. The decision was announced on July 4, 2026, through an office order signed by Acting Registrar Dr. A. B. M. Azizur Rahman. The order stated that on the night of July 3, several students from the 54th batch intimidated, verbally abused, and mentally harassed new students from the 55th batch, violating the university’s 2018 disciplinary ordinance. The expelled students have also been barred from staying in any residential halls.
The incident reportedly took place at the university’s School and College field, where the accused allegedly called the freshmen late at night under the pretext of “teaching manners.” The university’s proctorial team intervened, detained 12 students, and questioned them at the security office. Based on written complaints from the victims and confessions from the accused, the administration decided on temporary expulsion.
University officials confirmed that further disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with existing regulations after the ongoing process concludes.
