A bus helper named Md. Raju, aged 29, died after falling from a moving passenger bus in Noakhali’s Sadar upazila on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the Income Tax Office area of Maijdi Bazar on the Maijdi to Chaumuhani regional highway. Raju, son of Md. Sakhayet Ullah from Lakhinarayanpur village in Begumganj upazila, was working on a Sugandha Paribahan bus when he suddenly fell onto the road and was critically injured. Locals rescued him and took him to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to Chandraganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan, police visited both the accident site and the hospital. Preliminary findings suggest that Raju may have fallen accidentally from the bus. Authorities have handed over the body to his family after completing legal formalities, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief among Raju’s colleagues and relatives, while police continue their inquiry into the circumstances of his death.

Two journalists were allegedly handcuffed and taken to a police station in Chandina, Cumilla, after filming at the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) office on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The incident occurred when Abdul Alim and Russell Sarkar attempted to record the behavior of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Faisal Al Noor during a hearing related to a land mutation case. The journalists claimed their phones were seized, videos deleted, and they were released only after signing a written statement.
Faisal Al Noor stated that the journalists entered his office during a hearing and began recording without permission, which made him uncomfortable. He said he called the police, who handcuffed the men due to their unruly behavior, and that the handcuffs were removed once he learned they were journalists. Chandina Police Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman said police acted on the magistrate’s order. Cumilla Deputy Commissioner M. Reza Hasan acknowledged awareness of the incident and promised an inquiry.
Cumilla Press Club’s organizational secretary, Imtiaz Ahmed Jitu, condemned the incident, calling it an abuse of power and urging a fair investigation by the district administration.
Two journalists handcuffed in Cumilla after filming at land office, inquiry promised
Police in Dhaka’s Bangshal area have arrested two individuals in connection with a theft that took place in a rented flat. The arrested are Sheikh Zalamim, aged 34, and Madhab Chandra Dhar, aged 60. According to a press release issued on Wednesday night by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, cash and gold ornaments were recovered following the arrests.
According to Bangshal police, the incident occurred after Sheikh Zalamim and his wife were sublet tenants in a flat on the seventh floor of Mokka Dulary Tower on Malitola Road. When the flat owners returned from a trip to Chandpur on March 27, they found the door lock broken and valuables missing. The stolen items included 30,000 taka in cash, multiple gold ornaments weighing 11 vori 2 ana, a smartphone, property documents, a checkbook, and business papers. A case was filed by the victim, Md. Saiful Islam Sohan, at Bangshal Police Station.
Police said Zalamim was arrested on March 31 from Fulbaria intersection, and based on his information, Madhab Chandra Dhar, a jewelry shop manager, was later detained with a gold chain. Efforts to identify and arrest other suspects are ongoing.
Two arrested in Bangshal for sublet-based theft, gold and cash recovered
The Narsingdi district administration conducted two separate raids on Wednesday night, April 1, following intelligence provided by the National Security Intelligence (NSI). The operations targeted shops in the Paikdona Bazar and Paikdona Mor areas of Narsingdi Sadar upazila, where large quantities of fuel were allegedly hoarded illegally. Executive Magistrates Md. Masud Rana and Khalid Hasan led the raids, seizing octane, petrol, and diesel from the sites.
According to the district administration, Humayun Enterprise in Paikdona Bazar was fined 40,000 taka for storing 270 liters of octane and 700 liters of diesel. Ayaz Enterprise on Danga Road was fined 50,000 taka for hoarding 1,000 liters of diesel and 200 liters of octane. The seized fuel from Ayaz Enterprise was sold in the open market, and proceeds were returned to the owner, while the fuel from Humayun Enterprise was sold and deposited into the government treasury.
Officials stated that similar operations will continue to prevent artificial fuel shortages in the district.
Narsingdi officials seize illegal fuel stocks and fine traders after NSI intelligence raids
Authorities in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria seized approximately 5,200 liters of illegally stored diesel on Wednesday evening, April 1, 2026. The operation took place at Selim Store in Purvabhag New Market, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sahel Ahmed. The fuel was found in 32 drums during the raid, which was conducted based on confidential information.

Faisal was fined 10,000 taka under Section 20 of the Petroleum Act, 2016 for illegal storage. Officials stated that such enforcement actions will continue as part of efforts to stabilize the fuel supply and prevent black-market trading during the ongoing energy crisis.
Nasirnagar officials seize 5,200 liters of illegally stored diesel during anti-hoarding drive
A fire broke out on the luxury launch Kirtonkhola-10, which had been chartered from Dhaka to Barishal for the Char Monai Mahfil. The Chittagong Port Authority has seized an imported goods container that was released using fake documents. According to port sources, the container, numbered HMMU-4175990X40, was imported by Fahim Attire and Composite Ltd. It was illicitly released on March 31 using falsified on-chassis permits, invoices, and gate passes prepared by J S International C&F Agent. Security officials identified the forgery after verifying the documents and tracked the container’s location using CCTV and digital tools.
The container was found near Shahjalal Truck Terminal at a workshop named BMD Saiful Engineering. The suspects fled before the raid. Chittagong Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said an investigation committee has been formed, and preparations are underway to file a case against those involved.

A mobile court in Babuganj upazila of Barishal fined a trader named Md. Hannan Hawlader for illegally storing a large quantity of diesel. The operation took place on Wednesday, March 31, in Lohalia village, led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Kamrun Nahar Tamanna. Authorities recovered 580 liters of diesel from the trader’s house and imposed a cash fine of 15,000 taka.
According to the mobile court, Hannan Hawlader had stored the fuel with the intent to create an artificial shortage. The seized diesel was sold at the government-fixed price, and the proceeds were deposited into the state treasury. The executive magistrate stated that administrative drives against such anti-public interest activities would continue, warning that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in illegal hoarding or market manipulation.
The incident reflects ongoing enforcement efforts in Barishal to curb fuel hoarding and ensure fair market supply.
Trader fined in Babuganj for illegally storing 580 liters of diesel
Around 200 police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members stationed at two temporary camps in Jungle Salimpur, Chattogram, have been facing acute shortages of safe drinking water, electricity, and food for the past 23 days. The camps were established after a major joint operation on March 9, 2026, but the remote hilly terrain has made supply delivery difficult. Authorities reported that local terrorists have repeatedly cut off water connections at night, worsening the situation for the security forces.

Constable Shoaibur Rahman Joy appealed for forgiveness while being taken to court from the CMM Court lockup on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. A female head teacher in Cumilla was assaulted after a dismissed Awami League leader, accused of obtaining his job through forgery, returned to his workplace and attacked her. The victim, acting head teacher Hasina Islam of Berakhla Abdul Matin Khasru Girls’ High School, filed a case on Monday night against 11 people, including the dismissed teacher Aminul Islam Sujon and his cousin, Jubo Dal leader Sohel Rana. The assault reportedly took place on Sunday morning when the two, accompanied by several supporters, attacked the teacher at her office.
Following the incident, Cumilla South District Jubo Dal issued a show-cause notice to Sohel Rana, accusing him of violating party discipline and engaging in activities contrary to organizational rules. He was instructed to submit a written explanation within three days to the district conveners. Police confirmed that a case had been filed and said efforts to arrest the accused were ongoing.
According to the case details, Sujon had previously been dismissed in 2019 for using fake certificates and falsifying official documents but recently claimed a court ruling allowed him to return to his post, leading to renewed conflict at the school.
Head teacher assaulted in Cumilla; case filed and Jubo Dal leader issued show-cause notice
A mobile court in Narayanganj recovered a total of 13,980 liters of illegally stored diesel in two separate operations. The raids were conducted on Tuesday night in the Godnail area of Siddhirganj based on secret information, according to a press release from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued on Wednesday. Two individuals were fined and sentenced to short prison terms without labor for their involvement.
In the first operation around 6 p.m. near the Eidgah adjacent to the Meghna Depot in Godnail, 9,100 liters of diesel were seized. The accused, Sifat, was fined 6,000 taka and sentenced to two months of imprisonment without labor. In the second operation at a house near S.A. Road in the same area, 4,880 liters of diesel were recovered, and Nasir was fined 3,000 taka and sentenced to one month of imprisonment without labor.
The ministry stated that such operations will continue to prevent illegal hoarding and manipulation of fuel supplies.
Mobile court recovers 13,980 liters of illegal diesel in Narayanganj raids
A student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) was allegedly assaulted at the university’s Bangla Tiffin canteen on Wednesday morning following a dispute over seating. The incident involved Toufiqul Islam, a student of the Mechanical Engineering Department from the 2020–21 session, who was attacked by three to four unidentified students after refusing to vacate his chair. Security personnel later arrived at the scene. Initially, the canteen authorities denied the incident but later admitted that a physical altercation had occurred after pressure from eyewitnesses.
Toufiqul Islam stated that he and a friend were eating when several unknown students demanded their seats. When he refused and suggested they sit nearby, they verbally abused and then assaulted him. RUET’s Deputy Director of Student Welfare, H.M. Monjur Morshed, described the incident as regrettable and confirmed that the university had spoken with the victim. He said steps were being taken to identify and take strict action against those responsible.
The university administration has begun the process of investigating the assault and ensuring accountability for the incident.

In Kishoreganj of Nilphamari district, about 2,104 feet of main electricity cable from four poles were stolen late Tuesday night. The theft occurred during a storm when power supply was already suspended, according to the local electricity office. As a result, power supply remains cut off in several areas including Tengonmari and Putimari under the Kishoreganj grid.
Officials from the Kishoreganj electricity office stated that organized thieves took advantage of the storm and heavy rain to steal the cables stretching from a local petrol pump to Fakirpara. The estimated value of the stolen wires is around 150,000 taka. Additionally, five poles in the storm-hit Putimari Union were uprooted, and multiple lines were damaged, further disrupting electricity supply.
Residential engineer Samsul Arefin confirmed the theft and said restoration work is underway. He added that a formal complaint will be filed with the police after the immediate repair efforts are completed.
