Following his confession under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed, the court ordered Sohel Rana to be sent to jail. The case, filed by Ramisa’s father Abdul Hannan Mollah, names Sohel Rana, his wife Swapna Akter, and another unidentified person as accused, all of whom have been arrested and sent to prison by court order.

Farmer killed by lightning in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria

A housewife named Sumaiya Akter Sumi confessed in court to killing private tutor Morium Begum in Chapainawabganj. Her statement was recorded under Section 164 by Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Ashraful Islam on Wednesday evening. Police confirmed the confession on Thursday morning. Sumi admitted that she struck Morium with a wooden stick and later suffocated her to death. The victim’s body was found on May 19 inside a sack at Sumi’s home in the Namoshonkorbati area.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police ANM Wasim Firoz, Morium used to tutor Sumi’s child and had asked to borrow money to buy a laptop. When Sumi could not lend the money, Morium gave her gold earrings to sell. Sumi sold them for 12,000 taka and spent part of the money, leading to an argument that ended in the killing. Police also arrested Sumi’s husband Rubel, her father-in-law Anwar Hossain, and goldsmith Dipak Saha, who admitted to buying the earrings.

Police recovered the wooden stick, the earrings, and 7,500 taka from the sale proceeds as evidence.

National Olama Alliance urges swift trial and maximum punishment for accused rapist Sohel Rana

Gani, the general secretary of Brahmandi Union BNP, was attacked following a conflict with Duptara Union Swechchhasebak Dal member-secretary Ramzan Ali over the use of an excavator for unauthorized soil cutting.

Following the killing, relatives and BNP activists blocked the Araihazar-Gausia road in the Binairchar area on Thursday morning, vandalizing several vehicles and causing severe traffic congestion. Police detained four individuals for questioning. Local residents alleged that illegal soil extraction had been ongoing in the area for a long time without administrative action.

Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Alauddin said additional police forces were deployed to control the situation and that efforts were underway to identify and arrest those involved in the murder.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visits family of murdered child Ramisa in Dhaka

Police in Narsingdi have arrested Sabuj Mia, the prime suspect in the murder of a nine-year-old boy named Ramim in Palash upazila’s Gajaria area. The arrest took place on Wednesday morning at the Arshinnagar railway station area. Sabuj, son of Lokman Hossain from Char Karardi village, had been on the run since the incident. Law enforcement officials said he was captured with the help of information technology while attempting to flee to another location.

According to police, on May 6, Sabuj and three others—Faisal, Shishir, and Babu—allegedly took Ramim to a rickshaw garage in Gajaria Bazar, where they pumped air into his body through his rectum and mouth using a machine. The child was critically injured and later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Following the incident, Ramim’s father, Ripon Mia, filed a murder case against the four accused at Palash Police Station.

Police have sought a seven-day remand for Sabuj and are continuing efforts to arrest the remaining suspects.

Prime suspect arrested in Narsingdi child murder case

Police in Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla arrested a suspected drug dealer named Kabir Hossain on Wednesday afternoon in connection with an attack on two journalists. The attack occurred on Tuesday night at Shashidal Railway Station when journalists Akkas Al Mahmud Hridoy of Kaler Kantho and Shariful Islam Sumon of Dainik Comilla Protidin were filming footage of stolen goods and drug trafficking on the Chattala Express train. They were assaulted twice and later threatened with death if they published reports about the incident. Following the attack, a case was filed naming 11 individuals and 14 unidentified suspects.

Police said operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the assault.

The university has also announced a reward of Tk 50,000 for information leading to the suspect’s identification and arrest. Various agencies, including the district police, RAB, DB, PBI, CID, and DMP teams, are conducting both manual and technology-based searches nationwide.

Law enforcement’s cyber and intelligence units continue their technical investigation, expressing optimism about apprehending the suspect soon. The university administration is being regularly updated on the progress of the operation.

Fish trader killed by lightning strike in Narayanganj’s Araihazar

A young man named Fazle Rabbi was beaten to death by a mob in Sherpur upazila of Bogura on May 20, allegedly over an attempt to steal a transformer. The incident occurred in Chandeshwar village under Kusumbi Union. Following the incident, the victim’s mother filed a murder case at Sherpur Police Station against 50 to 60 unidentified individuals on the night of May 20.

According to the case statement, Fazle Rabbi, a 24-year-old electrician from Nata Bari village in Dhunot upazila, left home on the evening of May 19 for work. The next morning, police informed his family that he and another man, Jahangir Hossain, had been caught and beaten by locals while allegedly trying to steal an irrigation pump transformer. Rabbi was declared dead at Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, while Jahangir remained hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said the injured were rescued and sent to the hospital, and the deceased’s body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The investigation to identify those involved is ongoing.
