A brutal attack took place in Feni on Monday night when a group of assailants stabbed a student leader in the Mohipal area. The victim, identified as Abtahi Hossain Tahi, serves as the general secretary of the Mohipal Government College unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Witnesses and police sources reported that the attackers ambushed him and stabbed him in the back with a sharp knife. He was rescued with the weapon still lodged in his body and initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital due to his critical condition.
According to family and party sources, the attack was allegedly led by a known local drug dealer named Khurshid. The victim’s family is preparing to file a case regarding the incident. Police have not yet confirmed any arrests or further details about the suspects.
The attack has raised concerns about political and criminal violence in the area, though no official statement has been released by authorities at the time of reporting.
Student leader in Feni stabbed and critically injured in suspected targeted attack
A van driver was killed in a collision between a truck and a battery-powered van in Lalpur upazila of Natore on Monday evening. The accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. in the Chaknazirpur market area when a truck, registration number Dhaka Metro-T 16-8315, traveling from Lalpur to Bonpara, hit the van head-on. The truck was being driven by helper Md. Israil Hossain, 31, instead of the main driver.
According to local sources, the speeding truck collided with the van coming from the opposite direction, leaving van driver Zakir Ali Khan, 55, dead on the spot. The deceased was a resident of Uttar Lalpur village. Police detained Israil Hossain along with the truck immediately after the incident.
Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam confirmed the incident, stating that the body had been recovered and legal procedures were underway. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Van driver dies in Lalpur truck collision driven by helper
In Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria, a contractor has been accused of withdrawing Tk 22.9 million before completing a road development project under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). The five-kilometer Aliyabad–Gopalpur road, costing Tk 26 million, remains largely unfinished despite the project’s deadline having expired. Locals report that the road has become nearly impassable, filled with potholes and waterlogging, causing severe hardship for thousands of residents from nearby villages.
According to field visits and LGED sources, the project began on November 28, 2024, and was scheduled for completion by November 2025. Although records claim three kilometers of work were completed, the road shows little visible progress, and the portions built are of poor quality. Residents, including teachers, drivers, and commuters, described daily risks and frequent accidents due to the road’s condition. The Nabinagar Upazila Engineer stated that he joined recently and that the irregular bill withdrawal occurred before his tenure, promising to investigate the matter.
Attempts to contact contractor Lokman Hossain were unsuccessful as his phone remained switched off.

Two separate fatal incidents occurred in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon on Monday. An eight-month-old child named Hossain from Dalpatipur village in Kosharaniganj union died after a lychee seed got stuck in his throat. Family members rushed him to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Hospital sources confirmed that the child had died before reaching the facility.
In another incident the same evening, a 35-year-old carpenter named Mithun from Ketgaon Sindulya village in Daulatpur union was electrocuted while working on a tin roof at a house in Mitrabati village. He accidentally came into contact with an overhead power line. Locals took him to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors confirmed his death after examination.
Pirganj Upazila Health Complex’s residential medical officer Dr. Waris Yazdani and Pirganj Police Station’s officer-in-charge Iqbal Hossain Pramanik both confirmed the deaths and said the incidents were reported to the authorities.
Two die in separate choking and electrocution incidents in Thakurgaon’s Pirganj
Two people were killed and five others injured in separate lightning strikes in Jhenaidah district on Monday evening. The incidents occurred in Sadar and Shailkupa upazilas. The deceased were identified as Asadul Islam, 48, a farm laborer from Kushtia who had been working in Jhenaidah, and Anna Khatun, 42, wife of Anichur Rahman from Damukdia village in Shailkupa. Asadul was struck while working in Mayadharpur village, while Anna was hit near her home while collecting mangoes.
Local sources reported that another woman was injured in the same incident in Shailkupa. At the same time, three more women were injured in separate lightning strikes in Dhopaghata Gobindapur and Dogachi villages of Sadar upazila. The injured were taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where one person was declared dead before arrival. Hospital officials said the remaining victims were in stable condition.
Police confirmed the death of one farmer and sent a team to the hospital to investigate the incidents.

A mobile court in Bhangura upazila of Pabna sentenced a milk trader named Abdur Rashid, aged 23, to one year of imprisonment and fined him 50,000 taka for adulterating milk by mixing quality oil to increase its fat content. The sentencing took place on Monday night at Bhabanipur Paschimpara village, where 100 liters of oil were seized and destroyed publicly. The verdict was delivered by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mizanur Rahman.
According to the mobile court, Abdur Rashid had been operating a sealing center at his home for a long time, producing adulterated milk and supplying it to various companies, including Pran and BRAC. During the operation, veterinary surgeon Dr. Sharmin Akter, sanitary inspector Nurul Islam, and sub-inspector Ershad Ali were present.
The court’s action reflects ongoing efforts to curb food adulteration in the region, with local authorities emphasizing public accountability through on-site destruction of seized materials.
Pabna milk trader jailed for mixing oil to increase milk fat
A 24-year-old man named Md. Rakib has been accused of killing his mother, Jannat Begum, in Baliya village of Chandpur Sadar after she refused to give him money for drugs. The incident occurred late Sunday night at the Sadeq Khan house. On Monday morning, locals informed police after noticing injuries on the victim’s head. Police later detained Rakib and his 11-year-old brother Rifat from the scene and recovered the body.
According to family members, Rakib was addicted to drugs and often assaulted his mother for money. On the night of the incident, he allegedly beat her with a wooden stick after she refused his demand. Rakib then pretended that his mother had fallen ill and died, but neighbors became suspicious and alerted authorities.
Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Fayez Ahmed confirmed that the body was handed over to the family and legal procedures were underway. The victim’s brother and local residents demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
Man in Chandpur accused of killing mother after being denied money for drugs
Four Bangladeshi fishermen were reportedly abducted at gunpoint by Myanmar’s armed rebel group, the Arakan Army, from the Naf River near Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred while the fishermen were catching fish in the river on Monday afternoon. Boat owners Absar and Nurul Hakim confirmed the abduction, stating that the armed group chased the fishermen and took them away along with two engine-powered fishing boats.
The abducted fishermen were identified as Md. Monir Ahmed, Md. Yasin, Abdul Malek alias Shafa, and Md. Jamal Hossain, all residents of South Jaliapara in Teknaf municipality. Local fishermen reported that the Arakan Army members arrived by speedboat, held the fishermen at gunpoint, and took them toward Myanmar’s Kaichyang canal. Former municipal councilor Moniruzzaman confirmed receiving news of the abduction.
The incident has caused panic among local fishing communities. Attempts to contact the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) commander for comment were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.
Four Bangladeshi fishermen abducted from Naf River by Myanmar’s Arakan Army
Nakib Hossain, father of six-year-old Jabir Ibrahim, testified on Monday before International Crimes Tribunal-1 as the sixth witness in a case against Sheikh Hasina’s son and ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak. He described how his son was shot in the thigh during a rally near Uttara Scholastica School on August 5, 2024, and later died after being taken to several hospitals.
According to Nakib’s statement, a group of 15–20 helmeted men opened fire and threw sound grenades toward the crowd. He said he carried his injured son to multiple hospitals, but Jabir was declared dead at Dhaka Specialized Hospital. Nakib buried his son in Uttara Sector 4 cemetery.
Nakib held then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Joy, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and ICT Minister Palak responsible for the shooting, claiming the attack was carried out under their orders. He demanded maximum punishment for those involved.
Father testifies about son’s death in 2024 Uttara shooting before International Crimes Tribunal
Police in Rajair upazila of Madaripur recovered stolen vehicles from a garage near Pachchar Bridge in the Tekerhat Bandar area. Two members of a car theft and recovery ring were arrested during the operation. The detainees were identified as Faruk Molla from Shibchar upazila and Antor Biswas from Kalia upazila in Narail district. They have been sent to district jail through the court.
At a press briefing on Monday afternoon, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md. Salauddin of the Rajair-Shibchar circle said that along with a stolen pickup truck, two other stolen vehicles were recovered. The garage owner, Faruk Molla, was also detained during the operation.
According to the ASP, initial interrogation revealed information about an organized car theft ring. Police expect to obtain more significant details after further questioning of the arrested suspects.

Residents of Shyamnagar in Satkhira staged a violent protest on Monday afternoon after the body of fisherman Aminur Rahman Gazi, who was reportedly shot dead in the Sundarbans, was brought to the locality. The demonstrators attacked and vandalized the Satkhira Range Office and the Burigoalini Station Office of the Forest Department, injuring at least five forest workers. The injured were taken to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said anger spread among locals when the body arrived, prompting hundreds to march with sticks and surround the forest offices. Protesters damaged furniture, equipment, and assaulted several staff members. Police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed to restore order, while the body remained in front of the office until late afternoon. Senior police officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police for Kaliganj Circle and the Officer-in-Charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, visited the site.
A forest officer stated that the fatal shooting occurred in the Khulna Range’s Nolian Station area, not in the Satkhira Range, and expressed concern over staff safety following the attack.

An allegation has been raised against Talatli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saidul Islam in Barguna for allegedly facilitating the occupation of government land belonging to the Water Development Board (Paubo) by a local businessman. A video showing the OC present at the site during the land handover went viral on social media on Monday, prompting widespread discussion in the area. The footage reportedly shows the OC seated with a police team as locals measure the land and install boundary pillars before handing it over to businessman Ibrahim Farazi.
According to local sources, the disputed land is located near the Malipara sluice gate area, where Yusuf Khan’s family had been living for years without formal ownership documents. Both parties lack legal papers from Paubo. After a mediation meeting at the police station, the OC allegedly oversaw the land measurement and transfer to Farazi. Yusuf claims he was forced to sign a document under threat of jail.
Local residents suspect financial motives behind the handover. Officials from Paubo confirmed they were not informed by police and that the land recovery process is ongoing.

A Sunamganj court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment in a rape case. The verdict was delivered on Monday afternoon by Mohammad Habibullah, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal (District and Sessions Judge). The convicted individuals are Md. Matiur Rahman Matin, son of Abdul Khalek of Hasampur village; Dildar Hossain, son of Khwaja Ali; and Billal Hossain, son of Habibur Islam of Kamargaon village. Another accused, Md. Abdus Subhan of Kamargaon village, was acquitted as charges against him were not proven.
According to the case details, the victim, who completed her SSC from Haidarpur High School in 2017, was assaulted on August 11, 2021, while traveling to her grandfather’s house in Jiapur village. Matin and Dildar allegedly took her to Habipur village in Singchapair Union, where they raped her, and later to Billal Hossain’s house in Kamargaon, where she was assaulted again. The victim’s brother, Mohammad Ali, filed the case at Chhatak Police Station, and police later submitted a charge sheet.
The court announced the judgment after the hearing, confirmed by public prosecutor Advocate Md. Shamsur Rahman.
Three convicted of rape in Sunamganj sentenced to life imprisonment by tribunal
An inmate at Brahmanbaria District Jail died on Monday morning after suddenly falling ill. Prison authorities said the man, identified as Moron Mia, 40, from Dharamandal village in Nasirnagar upazila, became sick while having breakfast. According to Jail Superintendent Md. Mojibur Rahman Mojumdar, Moron Mia had been in custody since May 9 in connection with a yaba consumption case. His condition deteriorated rapidly on Monday morning, prompting his transfer to the hospital. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, and authorities said it will be handed over to the family after legal procedures are completed.

Inmate dies after falling ill at Brahmanbaria jail, declared dead at hospital
Islamic TV Managing Director Barrister Shams Iskandar announced that the channel will provide video evidence of the Shapla Chattar massacre to the International Crimes Tribunal. He made the statement on Monday after meeting with the tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor. Iskandar said that Islamic TV’s camera crew and news team were present at the site during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally and broadcasted the events live. Later that night, law enforcement personnel allegedly raided and vandalized the channel’s office, damaging broadcasting equipment and shutting down operations.
According to Iskandar, the Chief Prosecutor asked the channel to safeguard all available evidence, which prosecutors would later collect for investigation. He added that the channel had been accused of provocative coverage, but he denied the allegation, stating that the broadcast reflected real-time events. He claimed the closure of Islamic TV was due to family reasons rather than incitement. When asked about testifying, Iskandar said he was willing to do so if requested by the prosecution, emphasizing the importance of justice.
