Intense erosion of the Padma River has returned to Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila, destroying riverbanks and threatening dozens of homes. Heavy rains and upstream flow have worsened the situation. Locals are demanding urgent action and faster completion of an embankment project that is only 48% complete. Over 50,000 families have lost land in the past 25 years due to similar erosion. Residents fear more devastation if protective measures are not implemented immediately, as many homes now stand within feet of the advancing river.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education clarified that the “Government Primary School Scholarship Exam” will remain exclusive to students of public schools, to help children from low-income families continue their education through financial support.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has stated that New Delhi is paying close attention to developments in Bangladesh due to India's national interest and security concerns. This follows remarks by a BJP MP in the Lok Sabha, who raised concerns over a controversial map released by a group called “Saltanat-e-Bangla,” reportedly during a Dhaka University event. The map allegedly included parts of several Indian states as part of a so-called “Greater Bangladesh.” Jaishankar said the Indian government contacted Dhaka about the issue. In response, Bangladesh clarified that the map was part of a historical exhibit for Pahela Baishakh and had no affiliation with any foreign organization or group. The Bangladeshi government also denied the existence of any organization named "Saltanat-e-Bangla."

Switzerland’s unique Vocational Education and Training (VET) system starts at age 15, combining practical work experience with classroom learning. Nearly two-thirds of students choose vocational paths over university, gaining paid apprenticeships in over 250 recognized professions. This dual system ensures students develop relevant skills aligned with labor market needs, contributing to Switzerland’s low youth unemployment. The flexible structure also allows career shifts without bureaucratic hurdles, making it a model for producing a competitive, skilled workforce that drives the country’s strong economy.
Despite its legacy as the “Oxford of the East,” Dhaka University is facing a serious decline in academic quality, research output, and teacher-student engagement. Political interference, unmeritocratic faculty recruitment, and administrative neglect have weakened its core functions. While infrastructure projects have expanded, efforts to improve education and research remain minimal. Experts argue that without prioritizing teacher training, updated curricula, and research integrity, sustainable development is impossible. Dhaka University’s future depends on restoring academic excellence over politicized development.
The Israeli Embassy in Canada has strongly condemned Canada’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, saying it amounts to rewarding Hamas for the October 7, 2023 attacks. In a statement, the embassy said:
"Recognizing a Palestinian state without accountability, effective institutions, or humane leadership is equivalent to endorsing the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7."
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will officially recognize Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September. He emphasized that the move is intended to support a two-state solution. Canada also expressed hope that the Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, will hold general elections by 2026, excluding Hamas and ensuring the new state remains demilitarized.
