Ahead of student union elections, Jahangirnagar University has barred the entry of outsiders on campus starting May 3 until further notice. The university administration issued the restriction to maintain security during the elections for the central and hall student unions. All university personnel have been instructed to carry their ID cards at all times.

According to a circular signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Golam Kabir, the position of ‘Assistant Teacher’ has officially been included in the gazetted category as per the 1970 memorandum of the Education Department. This means teachers at government secondary schools will now receive benefits associated with gazetted status, including higher pay scales. The new rules also stipulate that second-class master’s or M.Ed. degree holders will receive one additional increment, while first-class postgraduates will receive two. The order has been made retroactively effective from July 1, 2015.

Professor Md. Hazrat Ali of the Civil Engineering Department at CUET has been appointed Interim Vice Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). He will serve until a full-time VC is appointed. Under the appointment conditions, he will receive the same salary and benefits as his current role and must remain on campus full-time. The President, acting as Chancellor, retains the right to revoke the appointment at any time.

After a decades-long hiatus, Jahangirnagar University will hold elections for its Central Student Union (JAKSU) and Hall Unions on July 31. A new Election Commission led by Prof. Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman has been formed, with Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Rashidul Alam as the member-secretary. The roadmap for the election was announced at 1 AM Thursday. Notably, the last JAKSU election took place in 1992.

At Ramgarh Government College in Khagrachhari, 29 students were expelled for submitting their exam papers early. Two teachers were removed from invigilation duties for protesting the expulsions. Lecturer Nazmus Sakib began a hunger strike in protest, joined by students. The administration later withdrew the expulsion and reinstated the teachers after widespread outcry.

Two faculty members from Comilla University have faced disciplinary actions over sexual misconduct. Associate Professor Md. Rezwan Talukdar was removed from his position as department head in 2020 following allegations of sexually harassing an evening program student and making derogatory comments about colleagues. In September last year, Assistant Professor Jasim Uddin of the Finance and Banking Department was placed on compulsory leave after he was accused of assigning grades to students post-resignation and harassing three students. Additionally, two students were expelled over drug use.

Students at United International University (UIU) staged a fresh protest, accusing the administration of conspiring to cripple the university through mass resignations. Students locked in the VC, deans, and department heads, demanding that all resignation letters—except those of VC Prof. Dr. Abul Kashem Mia and CSE department head Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nurul Huda—be withdrawn. Earlier, students had launched protests demanding the dismissal of Prof. Huda for alleged mistreatment.

A group of 10–15 outsiders attacked four students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) for allegedly not inviting the Vice Chancellor to an event, stating, “The VC is your guardian, why didn’t you invite him?” The students—Mohan, Sheikh Mujahid, Galib Rahat, and Md. Obaidullah—suffered cuts and bruises and are now receiving treatment at the KUET Medical Center. Police teams have been deployed to arrest the attackers, according to OC Kabir Hossain.
