Trump described the call as a step toward ending bloodshed. Following his conversation with Putin, he also plans to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of several NATO countries.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that countries failing to sign new trade agreements with the United States may face tariffs as high as 50%. Trump stated that the demand for trade deals is so high that individual negotiations are not feasible. Instead, within the next 2–3 weeks, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will send letters outlining new tariff structures. Countries that don’t comply will be subject to increased tariffs.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has confirmed that Pakistan was notified before India launched "Operation Sindoor." Responding to criticism from opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, who accused the government of compromising national security by informing Pakistan in advance, Jaishankar explained that a message was sent at the start of the operation. "We informed Pakistan that we are targeting terrorist infrastructure and would not engage Pakistani troops," he said. Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh slammed the move, calling it “an act of treason.”

Police in India’s Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh claimed to have detained 90 Bangladeshi nationals, including 35 men, 27 women, and 28 children, during raids on several brick kilns.
SSP Shlok Kumar stated that the detainees admitted to being Bangladeshi citizens and failed to produce any valid documents.
Authorities said the group had entered Mathura through neighboring states around 3–4 months ago. Some Aadhaar cards were reportedly recovered from the group.

Trump emphasized the significance of both nations, calling them “not small powers but major nuclear forces.” He also noted, “We’ve had excellent discussions with Pakistan, and communications are ongoing. Pakistan wants to trade with us—they are smart and doing great work.” Trump stated he had instructed his team to maintain dialogue with both countries.

Arab League Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki announced that an international conference on recognizing the State of Palestine will take place from June 17–20, co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France. The event, aligned with a past UN General Assembly resolution, aims to accelerate the two-state solution and explore mechanisms for formally establishing a Palestinian state. Zaki expressed hope that several countries would recognize Palestine during the conference, yielding significant political impact.

According to NBC News, following his Middle East tour, Donald Trump’s administration is planning to relocate one million Palestinians from Gaza to war-ravaged Libya. Though no agreement has yet been reached with the Libyan government, negotiations are underway. The US is considering incentives such as housing, scholarships, and financial aid. In return, Libya would receive access to billions in frozen assets. Hamas is reportedly unaware of the plan, but has condemned the idea.

The United Nations has reported that the Indian Navy allegedly abandoned at least 40 Rohingya refugees—including women and children—in the Andaman Sea with only life jackets for survival. Lawyers representing the affected families have filed a petition with India’s Supreme Court demanding the return of their relatives to New Delhi. Additionally, India has reportedly started pushing Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh.

Advisor Asif Mahmud revealed that Malaysia has made a policy-level decision to recruit a significant number of Bangladeshi workers in the coming years. The announcement came following a meeting in Putrajaya between Dr. Asif Nazrul and senior officials from Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources. Key agenda items included ensuring fair wages and benefits for current workers and developing a transparent recruitment process for future hires. Malaysia has also pledged to safeguard workers' rights, safety, and overall welfare.

Ben Cohen, co-founder of ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s and a prominent activist, was arrested at the U.S. Senate during a protest against the killings in Gaza. He was later released. Police charged Cohen with a misdemeanor, while six others were also detained and face more serious charges. The protest occurred during a budget hearing where Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was presenting his proposal. Cohen shouted slogans, accusing Congress of funding bombs that kill children in Gaza while cutting healthcare for the poor in the U.S.

As of now, 47,420 pilgrims from Bangladesh have arrived in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. Among them, 4,583 traveled under government arrangements, and 42,837 under private management, across 119 flights. A total of 86,678 visas have been issued. Sadly, seven pilgrims—six men and one woman—have passed away during the pilgrimage so far.

Farzana Ahmed Nipa recounted how a domestic dispute over loan repayments led her to contact a friend in Kolkata who promised a high-paying parlor job. She decided to cross the border illegally via Comilla but was caught upon arrival in Tripura and sent to Gomati District Jail the next day. “There are at least 10 Bangladeshi women imprisoned there,” she said. “Traffickers often send young girls to states like Maharashtra and Kolkata, sometimes selling them into brothels under the guise of employment.” Nipa added, “I never imagined I’d be rescued from that hell. I had lost hope of ever seeing my husband and daughter again.”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said that there will be no real progress on the Ukraine conflict unless he meets Russian President Vladimir Putin face-to-face. Trump had expressed interest in traveling to Turkey for direct talks with Putin as part of his initiative to end the war in Ukraine.

However, Putin did not visit Turkey on Thursday, and Trump also canceled his trip. Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had publicly invited Putin to meet in Turkey on the same day.

India has conducted a full-scale military exercise titled Teesta Prahar in the Teesta Field Firing Range of West Bengal, located near the strategically sensitive Siliguri Corridor—popularly known as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’. The operation was held from May 8 to May 10 as part of the country's wartime preparedness strategy.

According to an Indian Army spokesperson based in Guwahati, the exercise demonstrated the military's "joint combat strategy" and readiness in the challenging riverine terrain of the Teesta basin. Officially released videos and images show the use of artillery tanks, helicopters, surface-to-air missiles, and advanced drones during the operation.

In a video message, Expatriate Welfare Adviser Asif Nazrul confirmed that Malaysia has finalized a list of 7,926 Bangladeshi workers from a pool of 17,000 who were previously unable to migrate. He held official meetings with Malaysia’s Home and Human Resource Ministers and informal talks with the Trade Minister. "These workers will soon be able to travel and start working in Malaysia," he said. Nazrul added that Malaysia could recruit between 100,000 to 150,000 foreign workers in the coming months, with Bangladesh receiving top priority. He also mentioned efforts to legalize undocumented Bangladeshis and introduce multiple-entry visas.
