In the span of 24 hours, the Jamuna Bridge authority collected Tk 279,692,000 in tolls, with 38,539 vehicles crossing the bridge. According to Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, this toll revenue was recorded between Wednesday midnight and Thursday midnight. He added that while traffic volume was higher in the Dhaka-bound lanes, there were no reports of major congestion on the highway.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has published the full text of its ruling overturning a previous High Court verdict that scrapped the 15% income tax on private universities. The decision clears the way for the government to impose a 15% income tax on private universities.

Earlier, on February 27, 2024, the Appellate Division nullified the High Court’s ruling that had declared two government notifications on the 15% tax illegal.

Marking World Day Against Child Labour, a joint report by ILO and UNICEF revealed that hazardous child labour in Bangladesh declined from 3.2% in 2013 to 2.7% in 2022, meaning approximately 1.07 million children have been withdrawn from dangerous work. However, the overall child labour rate among children aged 5-17 slightly increased from 8.7% to 8.9%. The report also noted that children involved in 'hazardous work' increased marginally from 4.3% to 4.4%. Currently, 61% of child labour occurs in agriculture, 27% in services, and 13% in industry.

ILO Report: Hazardous Child Labour in Bangladesh Drops to 2.7%, 1.07 Million Children Withdrawn from Dangerous Work

Seventeen Bangladeshis, including children from four families, were pushed into Bangladesh by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) through the Noakot BOP border in Sunamganj’s Chhatak upazila.

In response, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Tarikul Islam provided humanitarian aid, including clothing, food, and medicine. The families expressed gratitude for the assistance. They were detained by BGB personnel after crossing the border.

At least 291 people have been confirmed dead in what is being described as one of the worst plane crashes in recent memory in Ahmedabad, India. Of the 242 passengers on board, 241 reportedly lost their lives. The aircraft crashed into the hostel of BJ Medical College, killing over 50 more people on the ground.

Police officer Vidhi Chaudhary told Reuters, "The death toll stands at around 294, including some students who were staying at the hostel." She noted that the lone survivor was seated in seat 11-E, next to an emergency exit, which might have saved his life. Authorities are still checking hospitals for potential survivors.

A British national, Biswas Kumar Ramesh, miraculously survived the horrific plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. Recalling the incident, he said, "About 30 seconds after takeoff, I heard a loud explosion, and the plane crashed. When I stood up, I saw bodies scattered everywhere. I was terrified and ran. Debris from the aircraft was lying all around me. Someone picked me up and took me to an ambulance, then to the hospital."

He added, "I had come to India for a few days to visit family. My brother was seated in a different row on the same flight. I still haven’t found him. Please help me find him."

In May 2025, Bangladesh witnessed 652 transport accidents—including road, rail, and waterways—that claimed 658 lives and injured 1,210 people, according to Jatri Kalyan Samity. Road accidents alone caused 614 deaths and 1,196 injuries from 597 incidents. Motorcycles accounted for the highest number of fatalities. Dhaka division had the most road accidents, while Barisal had the fewest. Victims included drivers, pedestrians, students, women, and children. The majority of accidents occurred on highways, with run-overs, collisions, and loss of control being the leading causes.
