Garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in protest after factory authorities refused to acknowledge the death of one of their employees in a road accident.

According to workers, Jannatul Ferdous Tamanna (32) requested leave on Tuesday night after her child fell ill. The factory authorities denied her leave and confiscated her ID card, forcing her to leave without official permission. The next morning, when she returned, she was denied entry due to the missing ID. While heading home, she was fatally struck by a truck.

Following the accident, the factory disowned her as an employee, sparking outrage among workers who launched a protest demanding justice.

Jagannath University students staged a protest demanding the arrest of Lucky Akter, a prominent figure of the Ganajagaran Mancha, along with other alleged fascist collaborators, in response to an attack on police. They declared her “unwanted” on campus and issued a 24-hour ultimatum for her arrest.

During the demonstration, students chanted slogans such as: “One, two, three, four—Shahbagh no more!”, “Lucky in law—Hasina, it’s you!”, “My brother is in the grave, why is the killer free?”, “No place for Shahbagh in my Golden Bengal!”, “Justice, not Shahbagh!”, and “Spread the news across Bengal—bury Shahbagh!”.

All academic activities of medical and dental students across the country will remain suspended today as doctors stage a grand rally to press for their five-point demand. Public and private hospitals will suspend services, except for critical units such as ICU, CCU, casualty services, admission units, and labor wards, which will remain operational on humanitarian grounds.

The five demands include:
1. Only MBBS/BDS degree holders should be allowed to use the title “doctor.”
2. All ongoing public health-related petitions in court must be resolved.
3. Reform the Medical Assistant Course curriculum and shut down substandard Medical Assistant Training Schools (MATS).
4. Prohibit private medical practice by unregistered individuals.
5. Fill vacant doctor positions and increase the BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) age limit to 34.
6. Enact a law for doctors’ protection and establish a structured salary framework for private-sector physicians.

A devastating fire broke out in Dhaka’s Sat Tola slum in Mohakhali, destroying most of the homes before being brought under control. The fire service reported that the blaze started at 3:38 AM and was extinguished after an hour and 42 minutes of efforts by eight firefighting units. Officials have yet to determine the extent of the damage.

Fayez Ahmad Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, has announced plans to create business opportunities for underprivileged individuals in the IT sector. He also declared that those involved in license trading would be excluded from future opportunities. Tayyab stated, “We will formulate policies to ensure that neither the government nor private entities can arbitrarily shut down internet access.” He also confirmed that a white paper on ICT sector irregularities has been published, and a similar investigation is being launched in the telecom sector to root out corruption. BNP leader Ishraq Hossain expressed support for reforms in the sector.

Militants have attacked a train in Balochistan, Pakistan, taking 182 passengers hostage, including military personnel. The attackers, identified as members of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), have threatened to kill all hostages unless security forces withdraw from the region. The train was carrying around 400 passengers at the time of the attack. The BLA, a separatist group, has been fighting for Balochistan’s independence for decades, accusing the government of exploiting the province’s gas and mineral resources. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has strongly condemned the attack, stating that the government will not back down.

A leaked video showing toxic black smoke billowing from a pipe at the SS Power Plant in Bashkhali has gone viral. The plant authorities stated that the incident occurred at 4:27 PM on Monday when an inspection door of an ash silo was accidentally opened during the fly ash transfer process. They assured that the emission was not harmful and that the situation was promptly brought under control. However, environmental activist Shahnewaz Chowdhury urged authorities to take immediate steps to minimize fly ash and carbon emissions to ensure environmental safety.

Following 17 days of protests, the interim government has decided to include non-MPO (Monthly Pay Order) educational institutions in the MPO scheme. The decision was reached during a meeting between Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and representatives of the Combined Non-MPO Teachers’ Unity Council. The teachers’ organization confirmed that the MPO registration process would begin on Wednesday, prompting them to withdraw their protest.

Interim government advisor Mahfuz Alam has urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement. In a Facebook post, he highlighted recent police actions in arresting suspects involved in gender-based violence and the Banani mugging case. Suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Fazlul Haque, facing charges of dowry harassment and domestic violence, attacked a journalist while being escorted to custody in Natore after his bail plea was rejected. Following the incident, local journalists and cameramen staged a protest in front of the court detention center, demanding that Haque be treated like any other accused individual—handcuffed, unmasked, and secured with a waist rope before being taken to prison. Responding to the demand, security personnel later escorted him to jail accordingly.

A Bangladesh court has ordered the seizure of 54 katha of land belonging to Summit Group Chairman Aziz Khan, his family, and associated entities following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). While the land’s market value has been officially stated as BDT 1.46 crore, the actual estimated value is BDT 9.70 crore. Previously, on March 9, the court had also frozen 191 bank accounts linked to Summit Group, holding BDT 41.74 crore.

Indian security forces have arrested 29 Bangladeshi nationals during separate operations in the state of Tripura. Between March 6 and March 10, the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted raids along various border points, leading to the arrests. Additionally, seven Indian human traffickers were also apprehended. According to a report by Jagaran Tripura, the BSF has intensified security measures, including organizing over nine community meetings in border villages to address public concerns regarding illegal crossings.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 206 individuals in a series of operations across the capital, targeting criminals involved in mugging, theft, and robbery. According to a media statement from the DMP, the arrests were made in connection with 53 cases filed in various police stations. To enhance public safety and maintain law and order, the DMP deployed special patrol teams, including 14 units from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) division working in two shifts, 12 units from the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) operating in three shifts, and 10 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) patrol teams at night.

Golam Kibria Md. Meshkat Chowdhury, the former central coordinator of an anti-discrimination organization, has issued a legal notice against nine individuals, including journalists and a university professor, for allegedly spreading false and baseless news. The controversy began on February 25, when Meshkat Chowdhury and three others were reportedly trapped inside Rajshahi Barind Medical College Hospital and later rescued by law enforcement. However, social media posts falsely claimed they were there for extortion. Both sides have denied any extortion attempts. In response to the misinformation, Chowdhury sent legal notices to those responsible, including Loton Ekram, Sourav Habib, Golam Rabbani, Mehedi Hasan Shyamal, Professor Kazi Zahid, Abdur Rahim, and Dr. Najib Wadud.

Dr. Alamgir Kabir, the Deputy Director (DD) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUSI) in Rajshahi, has allegedly been withholding files unless bribes are paid. Acting on complaints, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid at the regional office on Tuesday afternoon. During the operation, officials discovered 151 files stalled on his desk, even past their due processing time. These files reportedly include applications for teacher MPO enlistment, area bills, leave approvals, and NOCs for foreign travel. The deadline to send these files to the MAUSI headquarters in Dhaka had already passed, yet they remained with Dr. Alamgir Kabir. When questioned by ACC officials, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
