The shortage of bottled soybean oil continues in the market, while lemon prices have surged. The price of soybean oil has increased by 5 BDT per liter, and the price of lemons has risen by 20-30 BDT per dozen. Tomato prices have increased from 30 BDT to 40 BDT, carrots from 40 BDT to 50 BDT, bitter gourd is selling at 80 BDT, long eggplants at 60 BDT, and small eggplants at 80 BDT per kg. Green chilies are being sold at 80 BDT per kg. Broiler chicken is priced at 190 BDT per kg, Sonali chicken at 370 BDT per kg, and local chicken at 580 BDT per kg. Notably, the recent verdict in the Sheikh Hasina assassination attempt case was delivered in Bangla. Since 2007, High Court civil, criminal, and writ case rulings have increasingly been written in the national language. A single judge has reportedly issued over 30,000 verdicts in Bangla.

Out of 253 educational institutions in Golapganj, Sylhet, only 42 have Shaheed Minars. The rest, 211 institutions, resort to makeshift tributes using banana trees or bamboo structures during International Mother Language Day. The existing monuments are often neglected. The upazila has 180 primary schools, but only 22 have Shaheed Minars. Among 59 secondary schools, four colleges, and one lower secondary school, only 20 have the memorial structures. No government-run madrasas in the area have Shaheed Minars. The education department cited a lack of funds for the issue.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating alleged corruption in Chattogram WASA’s BDT 3,808 crore sewerage project, led by its Managing Director AKM Fazlullah. On Thursday, an ACC team raided the WASA office and reportedly found preliminary evidence of financial misconduct. The head of the ACC team informed the media that documents have been collected for forensic analysis. There are also allegations that a fire on the third floor of the WASA building in 2020 was an attempt to destroy incriminating records. The ACC has assured a thorough investigation and legal action.

On the occasion of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus paid his heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement. At 12:12 AM on Thursday night, he laid a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar. During this time, the song “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami Ki Bhulite Pari” played in the background. To honor the martyrs of the Language Movement and to respect their sacrifice, the Chief Adviser stood in silent tribute. Earlier, Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, welcomed the Chief Adviser at the Shaheed Minar premises.
Chief Adviser Pays Tribute to Language Movement Martyrs at Central Shaheed Minar
Police discovered the bloodied body of a Chinese national, Wang Ho (38), at a flat in Sector 14 of Uttara on Thursday evening. Wang Ho had been living at the flat with colleagues. According to Uttara West Police, he was murdered approximately 14-15 hours prior, with 11 stab wounds found on his body. The police have yet to identify the perpetrators of the crime. Investigators recovered two mobile phones and blood-soaked clothing as evidence. Both an old and new passport belonging to the victim were also found. Wang Ho, a stone trader, had recently returned to Bangladesh two days ago.

Speaking via video message at the inauguration of the week-long 7th National Comdeca event at Hardpoint in Sirajganj on Thursday, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus highlighted the significance of the public uprising in July and August, stating that it has paved the way for a new Bangladesh.
He urged everyone to remain vigilant to prevent any recurrence of dictatorship and to shape the country into one that benefits future generations. He highlighted that historical revolutions took time for nations to rebuild and expressed confidence in Bangladesh’s youth. He also warned against external dominance and fascism, stressing that unity is key to the country’s progress and sovereignty.
Mahmudur Rahman: Guide the Youth Instead of Criticizing Them
Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has emphasized the need to document and preserve records of the past 15 years of human rights violations and atrocities committed by the League government, including incidents during the recent mass uprising.
He warned that failure to remember the past could pave the way for another oppressive regime in the future.
Alam also claimed that $234 billion had been siphoned out of the country, referring to a United Nations report covering events from July 1 to August 5. He urged everyone to read and translate the report widely.
Highlighting the period from 2009 to 2024, he stressed the importance of never forgetting history, warning that forgetting past oppression only strengthens authoritarian regimes.
