Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), declared that the ongoing march program will continue, and postponed rallies in Madaripur and Shariatpur will be rescheduled soon. Speaking at a press conference in Khulna Press Club on Wednesday, he accused Mujibist terrorists of conducting a militant-style assault on NCP leaders and activists in Gopalganj. He claimed this attack is clear evidence of the ruling Awami League’s descent into terrorism. Nahid further alleged that Gopalganj has become a haven for fascists, with Student League and Youth League militants hiding there to evade legal action. He emphasized that the NCP has broken the myth that no political programs other than those of the Awami League can be held in Gopalganj. In protest, nationwide demonstrations have been called for the following day.

The Revolutionary Student Council (Biplobi Chhatro Parishad) has warned that it is unsafe to keep President Shahabuddin and other appointees of the ruling Awami League in power, claiming they could act against the spirit of the "July Uprising" at any time.

The statement came during a protest held at Dhaka University, organized in response to what the council described as a fascist attack by Awami League-backed elements on a Nationalist Council of Progress (NCP) rally in Gopalganj.

Founded by journalist Elias Hossain, it aims to provide bold, objective news focused on people’s rights, democracy, and anti-fascism. The launch emphasized unity against injustice and Indian aggression, honoring martyrs like Abu Sayeed. Broadcasts will originate from Bangladesh and the U.S., promising investigative and analytical reporting for a new Bangladesh.

A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 33 bank accounts linked to journalist Munni Saha, her mother, husband, and brother, following allegations of suspicious transactions involving around BDT 181.6 million. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) stated the funds exceed known sources of income and may have been acquired illegally, possibly intended for transfer abroad. The court issued the order to ensure a fair investigation. Earlier, a travel ban was imposed on Saha and four family members amid the ongoing probe into alleged financial misconduct.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition government has lost its parliamentary majority after the ultra-Orthodox Shas party announced its exit. The decision follows long-standing tensions over mandatory military service, which the ultra-Orthodox community opposes. Earlier this week, another religious party also resigned from the coalition. While Shas has left the government, it has stated it won’t actively seek to topple it. At least three people were killed and nine others shot during violent clashes surrounding a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj. The deceased were identified as Dipto Saha (25), Ramzan Kazi (18), and Sohel Rana Molla (30), all declared dead upon arrival at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Following the unrest, the transitional government imposed a curfew from 8 PM Wednesday to 6 PM Thursday. Military and police forces have been deployed to ensure security. The attack occurred as the NCP convoy was leaving the rally, reportedly ambushed by activists from banned groups affiliated with the Awami League.

Umama Fatema, a key coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, stated that women students played the most courageous and historic role in the uprising that began on June 5. She recounted that after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina referred to the protestors as “descendants of collaborators” on July 15, campuses ignited with outrage. Braving attacks from student league activists, police assaults, and administrative pressure, women protesters stood firm. Fatema detailed how female activists led overnight marches, sit-ins, and hall liberation efforts—facing violence, forced evictions from dormitories, and harassment. Women carried coffins, led slogans, and became the face of the movement. The Army Chief’s speech and a subsequent mass uprising transformed the movement into a full-fledged revolution. According to Fatema, the historic role of women in this struggle will shape the political confidence of future generations.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has voiced grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Gopalganj. In a Facebook post titled “What’s Happening in Gopalganj?”, he stated that despite being a part of Bangladesh, the region shows no visible presence of law enforcement amid escalating violence.

He urged the government to take immediate action and called on peace-loving citizens to unite during this crisis.

In response, police and military forces fired shots to control the situation, during which security vehicles were also attacked. NCP leaders later took shelter in government installations.

Leaders of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), who had been held up following a rally in Gopalganj, left the district safely under tight police security on Tuesday evening. Around 5 PM, a convoy of 15 to 16 vehicles carrying senior NCP leaders departed from the office of the Superintendent of Police.

Earlier, as the NCP convoy was returning from the rally, it came under attack. According to party sources, the assailants were members of the banned Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League. In an effort to bring the situation under control, police and military forces reportedly opened fire. NCP also claimed that some of their vehicles were damaged during the assault.

The incident has sparked concerns about political safety and freedom of assembly in the region.

In response to the repeated attacks on NCP leaders following their public rally in Gopalganj, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a nationwide blockade at key locations across the country.

According to a statement released on the group’s official Facebook page, all units have been instructed to coordinate the protest with local student organizations and political allies. The decision follows violent assaults—allegedly carried out by the Chhatra League—on the NCP convoy that left the city in a state of unrest.

Tension continues to grip Gopalganj as reports emerge of ongoing clashes between the attackers and law enforcement. Protesters are calling for immediate accountability and protection for opposition political groups.

Gopalganj descended into chaos on Wednesday afternoon after central leaders of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) came under sudden attack by banned members of the ruling Awami League’s affiliate groups. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM, prompting the NCP leaders to seek refuge at the district’s Circuit House.

Top NCP figures—including Convenor Nahid Islam, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Sarjis Alam, and Hasnat Abdullah—are currently taking shelter at the Circuit House. The attack, reportedly carried out by members of the Chhatra League and Jubo League, resulted in clashes near the city’s Municipal Park. Even police and army vehicles were reportedly targeted during the violence.

Law enforcement was forced to open fire to bring the situation under control. NCP leaders have accused the local administration of inaction and complicity in allowing the attack to escalate.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep concern over the attack on NCP’s ‘March to Gopalganj’ program. In a statement, he accused Awami allies of creating chaos through such assaults to embarrass the interim government. He demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the attackers, wished recovery for the injured police personnel, and urged national unity to protect democracy and freedom.

After repeated attacks on the NCP convoy in Gopalganj, party leader Sarjis Alam posted on his verified Facebook page: “If we survive, we’ll return after burying Mujibism—if not, we won't return at all.” He accused the government and administration of deliberate inaction. Their convoy was pelted with stones even while leaving the rally area. Despite the presence of army, police, and RAB, the attackers could not be stopped. Eventually, police had to escort NCP leaders to the Superintendent of Police’s office for safety.

Following the attack on NCP leaders’ convoy in Gopalganj, District Commissioner Md. Kamruzzaman has imposed Section 144 to prevent further unrest. On Wednesday, Chhatra League and banned Awami League activists ambushed the NCP convoy with brickbats at Poura Park and Chourangi intersection. As clashes turned the area into a battlefield, army, police, RAB, and BGB forces were deployed. The army intervened twice to disperse attackers. Police used blank shots, tear gas, rubber bullets, and sound grenades to control the situation. At least four police officers were injured, and intermittent clashes continue.
