A Bangladeshi court has issued a travel ban on National Party Secretary General and former Minister Advocate Md. Mujibul Haque Chunnu and his wife Roksana Kader. The decision was made following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), citing ongoing investigations into alleged money laundering, extortion, tender manipulation, and illegal wealth accumulation involving Chunnu and his close associate Amirul Islam Babul. The ACC stated that preventing them from fleeing is crucial to the investigation.

BNP Executive Committee member Hummam Qader Chowdhury has alleged that he was illegally detained in a facility known as 'Ayna Ghar' for a month. He stated that he recently visited the location with interim government leader Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Speaking at a virtual event for a school inauguration in Chattogram, he expressed hope that justice for his wrongful imprisonment and the mistreatment of his family would be served soon.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced nationwide protests demanding justice and a ban on the Awami League. In a Facebook post, the group stated that a funeral prayer for slain activist Abul Kashem would be held at 9 PM at the Central Shaheed Minar, followed by a symbolic "coffin march." Similar protests and absentee funeral prayers will be organized in every district and village.

Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has declared, "Either the Awami League will remain, or we will." He made the statement while sharing a Facebook post by activist Sadik Rahman Khan that included the hashtag #BanAwamiLeague. In another post, he mentioned the death of a fellow activist, Abul Kashem, and called for the immediate banning of the ruling party.

A student named Abul Kashem (20) has died while receiving treatment after an attack on students near the residence of former minister A.K.M. Mozammel Haque in Gazipur. He passed away at 3 PM in the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Earlier, the Home Affairs Advisor assured that those responsible for the attack would face the highest level of justice. The attack occurred last Friday when Awami League activists allegedly assaulted the students near Mozammel Haque's residence.

BNP’s Central Sports Secretary Aminul Haque has accused the ruling party of surrendering Bangladesh’s technology sector to Indian influence and the Sheikh family’s control. Speaking at a workshop, he warned that if this “syndicate” is not dismantled, safeguarding the country’s data and information will become increasingly difficult. He also criticized the ruling Awami League for “destroying” the police force over the past 17 years. During the event, Aminul highlighted Tarique Rahman’s 31-point agenda as the key to building a “new Bangladesh” and restoring national sovereignty.

Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sajib, student leaders of the July-August uprising, confirmed that they were held at the Aynaghar torture cells operated by the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). During an inspection visit with the Chief Adviser on Wednesday, both leaders recognized the rooms where they had been detained. Nahid recalled that the room where he was held had a small basin-like structure used as a toilet. He noted that after August 5, partitions between cells were removed, and the entire space was repainted. Asif identified his cell by the exhaust fan installed on its wall. Both were forcibly taken in plain clothes and detained in Aynaghar during the uprising.

During his visit to the ‘Aynaghar’ detention site, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus condemned the previous Awami League government, stating that it had ushered in an “era of darkness” in Bangladesh. Referring to the facility as a “monument of Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime,” he recalled that it was used for enforced disappearances. Yunus made the visit following a meeting with the Commission on Enforced Disappearances, which had been investigating cases of missing persons.

Investigators claim that former Awami League state minister Dr. Enamur Rahman was responsible for the deaths of 62 people in Savar and Ashulia during the July uprising. During a court hearing on Wednesday, the lead investigator stated that Savar and Ashulia witnessed the worst violence of the anti-discrimination student movement. He alleged that Enam, a wealthy politician, financed the brutal crackdown, which resulted in 41 deaths in Ashulia and 21 in Savar. He also revealed that some bodies were burned using gunpowder to destroy evidence.

A court has granted a five-day remand for former state minister Enamur Rahman in connection with the murder of Shahid Kaiyum, a Comilla University student, during the July uprising in Savar. According to the case details, Kaiyum was shot dead at the Savar bus terminal on August 5. His mother later filed a case seeking justice. Meanwhile, Awami League figures Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu, Salman F Rahman, and Abdullah Al Mamun have been arrested in connection with a separate murder case in Ashulia.

To demand control over essential commodity prices, improvements in law and order, a roadmap for early elections, and resistance against fascist plots, BNP has announced rallies across all 64 districts of Bangladesh. The eight-day program begins today (Wednesday), with senior leaders addressing gatherings in various districts, including Goyeshwar Chandra Roy in Lalmonirhat, Nazrul Islam Khan in Sirajganj, and Salahuddin Ahmed in Feni.

On Tuesday, Mohammad Shishir Monir, the lawyer representing the plaintiffs in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, alleged that the Awami League government obstructed the investigation and destroyed crucial evidence on high-level orders. Runi’s brother and case plaintiff, Nausher Alam Roman, accused the previous government of involvement in the murder. Journalists present at the event expressed outrage over the prolonged delay in justice, vowing to submit a memorandum to the Chief Adviser.

Speaking at a seminar titled "Tarique Rahman’s 31-Point Reform Agenda and Public Engagement," BNP leader Mirza Abbas urged authorities to focus on corrupt officials hidden within government offices rather than searching for "devils" in jungles. He claimed that pro-Awami elements still occupy key positions in government institutions and misguide the administration. Addressing criticism over BNP’s demand for elections, he asserted that the party has been fighting for voting rights for decades and welcomed the shift in focus from local to national elections.

At an event in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, President of Nagorik Oikya, emphasized the need for national unity in the fight for democracy and freedom. He stated that the nation must overcome division and hostility to remain united in the long run. He assured that efforts to change the country have already begun. The event was a symbolic hunger strike organized by the families of those killed and injured during the 2024 mass uprising, demanding proper medical treatment and state rehabilitation for the wounded. After three hours of fasting, Manna, as the chief guest, ended the strike by offering water to the protesters.

During the mass uprising, Abdul Mannan served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sylhet. Allegations surfaced that he allowed members of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to store weapons in his office. Last Friday, the Rangpur Metropolitan Police arrested Abdul Mannan, who was then serving as SP of the Rangpur Range. He was later presented before a Sylhet court and placed in custody. Mannan has also been accused of being involved in a promotion trading scheme. On August 4, six people were killed by law enforcement gunfire in Sylhet’s Gopalganj Upazila, which was under his jurisdiction. He is also alleged to have been involved in land fraud and acting as an armed protector for the BCL.
