BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said elections are expected in February and that the chief adviser and the military are conscious of the need for a credible process. However, he warned that adversaries are attempting to keep Bangladesh unstable and urged a collective effort to resist such designs. Speaking with Khaled Mahmud, Fakhrul urged rebuilding public trust where skepticism has grown and stressed that progress requires concrete action. He said other political parties are aware elections are imminent and that while the military and advisers are vigilant, there is no simple solution to the country’s problems. He expressed concern that planned mob violence, arson and factory attacks appear increasingly organized. On the NCP–Jamaat issue, Fakhrul described bargaining and political negotiation as the nature of party politics and noted that many discussions have already taken place, creating space for further talks.

NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah said former co-convener of the Uttara anti-discrimination student movement, KM Mamunur Rashid, has been missing for more than 48 hours, a development he described as deeply worrying and alarming. Hasnat noted that such an incident is particularly troubling in the post–August 5 context and represents a failure of the state to guarantee basic citizen security. He criticized law enforcement and the government for apparent negligence in conducting a prompt, transparent investigation. Hasnat also expressed concern over the media’s silence, warning that that silence risks bringing back an atmosphere of fear and repression in politics.

NCP leader Akhtar Hossain filed a complaint at the Port Authority Police Department police station near the airport after an incident in which eggs were thrown at him. Akhtar said that, following an earlier attack near the airport, Awami cadres returned to his hotel lobby this evening with the intent to assault him. He said NCP members and supporters in the U.S. repelled them and contacted police; an investigating officer advised filing a complaint, prompting the case. Akhtar added that the perpetrators are linked to an organization banned in Bangladesh and alleged their involvement in crimes against humanity last year; he said he informed U.S. police and referenced a related U.N. report. Earlier he had dismissed the egg attack as inconsequential, saying he is not intimidated by shots or broken eggs.

BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi warned that rehabilitating what he termed the “fascist” Awami League would have dire consequences for the country and could subject Bangladesh to renewed authoritarian rule. Rizvi alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami is encouraging efforts to reinstate the party and suggested Jamaat may have ulterior motives related to the Awami League’s interest in closer ties with India. He claimed India aided what he described as directives linked to mass atrocities during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. Commenting on recent opinion polls, Rizvi said BNP currently has no specific response to the surveys.

A high-level delegation from the Chinese People’s Institute for Foreign Affairs, led by Vice President Mr. Zhou Pingjian, paid a courtesy call on Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. After the meeting, Mia Golam Perwar said that despite a year having passed since the uprising, he believes the Awami League’s conspiracies against the country continue. The Jamaat Amir, Perwar reported, vowed to confront those plots and to work to advance the nation.

Dr. Shafiqur emphasized his desire to strengthen close, neighborly ties between Bangladesh and China, and the two sides discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations. The Jamaat leader also described what he termed the previous government’s record of repression. He said that, if given the opportunity to govern, Jamaat would serve the public rather than rule over them. Perwar added that the meeting covered China’s role in global security and election-related matters, noting that Jamaat is an election-oriented party prepared to contest polls. Mr. Zhou Pingjian described China–Bangladesh diplomatic ties as long-standing and affirmed ongoing efforts to further strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries.

BNP leader AZM Zahid Hossain has accused the ruling Awami League of engaging in “revenge politics,” blaming them for recent attacks on political leaders in New York.

Zahid said BNP will soon finalize its candidate list, stressing that surveys involving local and district leaders will guide the selection process. “BNP is a party so large that there are ten times more aspirants than available seats. Ultimately, only those with strong public support in their constituencies will get nominations,” he added.

He further said Tarique Rahman, currently abroad, will return within weeks to lead BNP and Bangladesh’s broader democratic movement.

BNP leader and veteran freedom fighter Hasan Uddin Sarkar alleged that both local and international groups are conspiring to prevent BNP from returning to power in the upcoming elections.

He accused a “party of anti-liberation forces” of opportunistically aligning with Awami League, BNP, or Jatiya Party whenever convenient for political gains, saying: “They have no principles. They exploit religion to seize power.”

Sarkar also praised former President Ziaur Rahman as a symbol of integrity, noting that he introduced Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim into the constitution and was never accused of corruption in his political career.

Shahjahan Mia, Jamaat’s candidate for Chandpur-3 constituency, campaigned in Haimchar upazila on Wednesday, urging voters to support the party’s “balance scale” symbol in the upcoming elections.
“I am committed to establishing equality, justice, and fairness in society,” Shahjahan told locals during his campaign.
He pledged to work for the welfare of the people if elected and vowed to establish a peaceful and just social system.

K.M. Mamunur Rashid Mamun, former joint convener of Turag Thana BNP in Baibichar, has been missing for three days.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the youth wing of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) demanded his immediate recovery. Central organizer Mahtab Bandhan stated that Mamun left home in traditional attire on Sunday morning and has not been seen since.
A general diary (GD) has been filed with the local police, and appeals have been made to RAB, PBI, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Party leaders expressed deep concern over the safety of those involved in anti-fascist movements and issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Mamun’s safe return, followed by a protest rally in Uttara Sector-7.

Islami Andolon Bangladesh has urged Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to strongly raise the issues of Palestine, the Rohingya crisis, and good governance in Bangladesh at the ongoing UN General Assembly session.
Party spokesperson Ataur Rahman condemned what he described as “genocide in Gaza” and called for Bangladesh to take a firm pro-Palestine stance at the UN.
He also stressed the need to present Bangladesh’s struggle for democratic reform, efforts to combat corruption, and the push to repatriate stolen funds and fugitives.
On the Rohingya issue, Rahman criticized the international community for limiting its role to aid while failing to ensure their safe repatriation to Myanmar.

BNP leader Salahuddin Tuku has reaffirmed that his party remains committed to serving the people and solving their problems through collective effort.
Speaking in Tangail while consoling the families of two missing boys, Mehedi Hasan (8) and Adib (9), who drowned in a local waterbody, Tuku stressed the importance of teaching swimming to children in riverine Bangladesh.
He noted that urbanization has reduced natural water bodies where children could traditionally learn swimming, calling for modern city planning that addresses such realities.
Tuku added that real change requires unity and goodwill, pledging that BNP will prioritize education, healthcare, sports, and child development to build capable citizens from an early age.

BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the medical expenses of Abdur Razzak, a rickshaw-puller suffering from kidney disease and father of young Lamia Akter.
On Wednesday, senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi visited Razzak’s family home in Dhaka’s Shyamoli Housing area, where he assured support and handed over financial assistance.
Razzak currently requires two dialysis sessions per week. His wife is willing to donate a kidney, but lack of funds has stalled the transplant. The issue gained national attention when Razzak’s daughter Lamia made an emotional appeal in a televised interview. In response, Tarique Rahman directed the “Amra BNP Poribar” platform to stand by the family.

The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has announced its new leadership, electing Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan as President and Abdullah Kafi Ratan as General Secretary. The decisions came at the first meeting of the newly elected committee formed during the party’s 13th Congress, held at Muktibhaban in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.
Other presidium members include Mujahidul Islam Selim, Rafiquzzaman Layek, S.A. Rashid, Ragib Ahsan Munna, Jolly Talukder, and Aminul Farid.
Chandan, a former president of the Bangladesh Student Union in the 1990s, steps into the top role, while Ratan—also a Student Union leader and former elected General Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU)—assumes the post of General Secretary. They succeed outgoing President Mohammad Shah Alam and General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has appealed to the public to help trace Awami League activists hiding in residential hotels, apartments, and student hostels.

DMP Additional Commissioner Nazrul Islam said police raids and surveillance operations are ongoing, as many activists are reportedly staying in rented flats free of charge. Citizens have been assured that any information they provide will remain confidential.

He added that several activists have already been arrested during flash processions, thanks to public cooperation. “Future arrests will help reduce such illegal gatherings. The banned political party is attempting to disrupt law and order ahead of the election, but operations against them will continue,” he said.
