Maulana Mamunul Haque, President of Shapla Smriti Sangsad, has criticized the July Declaration for omitting references to the 2013 Shapla Square crackdown, saying both Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the interim government must be held accountable. Speaking at an event, he said Shapla’s blood sacrifice ignited the spirit of 2024 and vowed that Shapla’s legacy must become a cornerstone of future Bangladesh. He also announced the formation of “Shapla Shaheed Guardians Forum” to support families of victims. At the same event, Jamaat leader Abdul Halim argued that the past 15 years distorted the image of Islamic scholars, while NCP leader Abdul Hannan Masud warned that unless the Constitution is reformed, “Shapla, 2013, and 2024 will return.” BNP leader Kamruzzaman Ratan added that if VP Nur’s blood goes in vain, “future generations of bearded and pious people will also face humiliation.”

BNP leader Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has alleged that the attack on Ganadhikar Parishad convener Nurul Haque Nur was part of a wider “domestic and international conspiracy.” Visiting Nur at the hospital, Dr. Zahid said the assault was politically motivated and orchestrated by elements within the administration still active after the events of August 5. He added that both Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are personally monitoring Nur’s health condition and urged the interim government to ensure full medical care for all those injured.

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the candidacy of SM Farhad, the Islami Chhatra Shibir nominee for General Secretary in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Daksu) elections.
The petition was lodged by BM Fahmida Alam, Liberation War and Mass Movement Affairs Secretary of the Aparajeyo 71–Odommo 24 panel, which is backed by left-leaning student bodies. Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua will argue the case on behalf of the petitioner.
The writ claims that Farhad previously served on a Bangladesh Chhatra League committee, raising questions over how he later emerged as a Shibir candidate. The Aparajeyo 71–Odommo 24 panel consists of factions from Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Socialist Student Front, and Bangladesh Chhatra League–BCL.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has declared that his party will not accept any attempt to replace Bangladesh’s current Constitution. Speaking to reporters, Fakhrul emphasized that the existing Constitution is tied to the nation’s Liberation War and independence struggle, and while errors can be corrected, drafting a new charter is unacceptable. He added that any unresolved issues must be debated in Parliament, as “no constitutional change can bypass it.” Fakhrul also insisted that timely elections are essential for democratic transition and that despite political rhetoric, all parties—including Jamaat, which has already begun campaigning—are expected to participate in the upcoming polls.

BNP leader Hasnat Abdullah has warned that opposition figures risk suffering the same fate as Tarique Rahman—who was forced into exile after signing undertakings—if systemic rules are not changed. Speaking in Brahmanbaria, Hasnat referred to Friday’s attack on Nurul Haque Nur as a “message” for all opposition forces. He stressed that BNP seeks both elections and reforms, including guarantees that citizens will not face arbitrary detention without trial. Hasnat also acknowledged recent positive outreach from BNP leader Rumeen Farhana, who had sent representatives to check on internal disputes and even provided gifts as a gesture of goodwill.

Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqur Islam Khan has declared that the party is fully prepared for elections “even if they are held tomorrow.” However, he stressed that justice for past atrocities, fundamental reforms, and the arrest of “fascist collaborators” embedded within the administration must come first. Speaking at a semi-annual conference in Bogura’s Shaheed Titu Auditorium, Rafiqur said that without a level playing field, any rushed election would not reflect the will of the people.

Islami Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam has condemned enforced disappearances, calling them “cruel, inhumane, and a grave violation of human rights.” He urged immediate political will and decisive steps to end the culture of disappearances that has plagued Bangladesh since past upheavals. Zahidul demanded the safe return—or full disclosure of the fate—of all missing persons, legal action against law enforcement officials involved, public disclosure of secret detention facilities (“black sites”), proper rehabilitation for victims’ families, compensation for survivors, and comprehensive reforms of law enforcement to prevent future abuses.

Dr. Mahadi Amin, adviser to BNP’s acting chairman, stated that the central goal of the mass uprising was to return the state to the people through a free and fair election.
“Therefore, the most important reform now is the election itself,” he emphasized.
He added, “We go to the people because true power lies with them. They will decide who should be entrusted with running the state.”
Mahadi Amin called for unity to fulfill the aspirations of the July uprising.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has ruled out the possibility of any electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming 13th National Election. However, he hinted at possible collaboration with other Islamic parties.
“Decisions regarding alliances will be taken after the election schedule is announced,” Fakhrul said. On seat-sharing with like-minded parties, he clarified, “No discussions have taken place yet—it will take more time.”
Addressing concerns over the rise of radical groups, Fakhrul said, “They weren’t visible before, but now they are surfacing, organizing programs, and gaining ground. If not resisted immediately, their growth could trigger major violence and political crises.”
No Alliance with Jamaat in Upcoming Election: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused vested groups of trying to sabotage the upcoming 13th National Election. Speaking at the first National Representative Assembly of ethnic minority groups, he said, “Just as we fought together in 1971 for our territory, independence, and sovereignty, we will now unite and fight for our rights.”
He warned against extremist groups attempting to sow division through radical narratives. Fakhrul emphasized that after years of “a monstrous fascist regime,” the recent uprising has opened the door to building a new Bangladesh. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the nation can move forward with unity.
The event began with a captivating cultural performance by 15 young women in traditional attire. On behalf of Tarique Rahman, Fakhrul later distributed 26 sewing machines among women from plains communities.

The AB Party staged a protest march in front of the National Press Club condemning the attack on Nurul Haque Nur.
Addressing the rally, Mujibur Rahman Manju expressed deep concern over Nur’s health. “If fascists are prosecuted, why should their collaborators escape accountability? Both the Awami League and Jatiya Party are equally responsible for depriving the nation of elections in 2014, 2018, and 2024. From now on, the streets will be our answer,” he declared.
Manju alleged that Gono Adhikar’s office was vandalized and senior political leaders were brutally tortured. “There was no provocation, yet the march was attacked. Instead of delaying, the authorities must carry out a proper investigation.”
He also placed two immediate demands: ensuring Nur’s best medical treatment at the state’s expense and publishing the names of the attackers within six hours and taking action against them.
Warning the authorities, Manju said, “If you plan to strike deals like Hasina, your fate will be like Yahya’s.”
At the same event, Asaduzzaman Fuad added: “In the past year, not a single Awami League leader or activist has been subjected to such brutal treatment by law enforcers. Yet the offices of Delhi’s loyalists are guarded, while leaders of the mass uprising are beaten.”

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam has announced that the International Crimes Tribunal cases against Sheikh Hasina are expected to reach final verdicts by February next year.
He explained that the tribunal has faced significant challenges in investigating human rights violations during the July–August 2024 movement, where many police officers were allegedly involved.
“Investigating police misconduct using the police itself was a major challenge. Many pieces of evidence were also destroyed. Despite that, we have managed to push the trial process significantly forward,” he said.
Tajul Islam emphasized that the proceedings are being conducted in line with international standards, leaving no room for doubt or dispute.
“Several important cases are now close to completion, and final verdicts will be delivered very soon,” he added.

Germany’s unemployment has surpassed 3 million in August, reaching its highest level since 2015, as the economy faces the risk of contracting for a third consecutive year. The labor market crisis is linked to weak economic growth, production declines due to global uncertainties, and the halt of cheaper Russian fuel imports. Key sectors like automotive lost tens of thousands of jobs. Experts warn that structural challenges, rather than temporary weakness, are driving the country’s economic slowdown.
