Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, during a visit to a graveyard, said that Barrister Abdur Razzaq symbolized the fight for justice. Forced into exile due to political harassment, Razzaq represents the injustice faced by Jamaat leaders. Referring to executed and imprisoned party figures, Shafiqur Rahman expressed hope that war crimes convict ATM Azharul Islam would be acquitted and return to lead the party. He emphasized that if the July uprising is justly addressed, future tyrants will no longer find safe haven in Bangladesh.

SM Mizanur Rahman Mizan, personal officer to Sheikh Hasina, was arrested by New Market police around 10 PM on Wednesday. Officer-in-Charge Mohsin Uddin confirmed that Mizan was detained in connection with a murder case linked to a mass uprising. He was handed over to police by students of Dhaka College and pedestrians who recognized him. Further legal action is pending.

Three individuals, including a female anti-discrimination advocate and two coordinators, were reportedly assaulted by activists of the Feni Government College unit of Chhatra Dal on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Abdullah Al Mahfuz, Salman Hossain, and Nadia Akter Khushi. According to them, the attackers were led by recently expelled senior joint convener of the Feni Chhatra Dal, Zillur Rahman, and his associates. Salman said they were returning from visiting a hospital patient when around 15–20 Chhatra Dal activists attacked them. The NCP noted that Zillur had previously been accused of threatening a journalist with death.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday afternoon to perform Hajj, accompanied by his wife. He is expected to return on June 11, Inshallah. During his absence, Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Ma’sum will serve as Acting Secretary General of the organization.

The Nationalist Citizens' Party (NCP) has voiced deep concern over India’s recent airstrikes in Pakistan, calling it a direct threat to regional peace and stability in South Asia. In a statement, the party urged all stakeholders to exercise utmost patience and restraint in the interest of regional harmony. It also warned that thousands of fugitive members of the fascist and genocidal Awami League currently residing in India pose a serious threat to Bangladesh’s internal security. The NCP alleged that these elements are conspiring to exploit the regional tension to destabilize Bangladesh. It called on the government and security forces to strengthen surveillance and institutional capacity along the borders and to act with the highest level of professionalism. The party also called for national unity during this critical time.

Following India’s attack on Pakistan, Tarique Rahman issued a statement calling for restraint amid rising regional tensions. “We condemn military aggression and extend our deepest sympathies to the affected families,” he wrote. He urged all parties involved to pursue peaceful conflict resolution. “A stable and peaceful region, built on shared interests and aspirations, is in the best interest of all,” Rahman added.

Commenting on the Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 Indian tourists, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman warned against the current cycle of retaliatory violence. He called for an impartial, international investigation and urged both sides to act responsibly. “War benefits no one,” he said, calling for a lasting solution for the people of Kashmir.

India’s top political figures expressed rare unity following the strikes. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar urged the world to take a zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. Home Minister Amit Shah praised the military for “Operation Sindoor.” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted pride in the Indian Army, while TMC’s Mamata Banerjee and AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi welcomed the offensive as a justified response to cross-border terrorism.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had prior knowledge of the recent Kashmir attack but failed to act, alleged Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. “Intelligence warned the Prime Minister three days before the attack, and he canceled his trip accordingly. Yet no preventive measures were taken,” Kharge claimed. Meanwhile, India has launched its largest nationwide civil defense drill since 1971, involving over 400,000 volunteers across cities and villages. The drill will run through May 9.

Seventeen more individuals have been arrested in connection with Sunday’s attack on NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah's convoy in the Chandana Chowrasta area. Police said those arrested are affiliated with the Awami League or its allied organizations. Earlier, 43 people were detained. All 17 were produced in court on Tuesday and sent to jail.

Former Member of Parliament Sheikh Helal Uddin and his son, also former MP Sheikh Tonmoy, have been named in a Tk 200 crore extortion case filed by Abdul Mannan Talukder, Managing Director of New Bashundhara Real Estate. The complaint, lodged at Bagerhat Model Police Station, also names Sheikh Helal’s aide Md. Firozul Islam, Tonmoy’s aide M.H. Shaheen, and Sheikh Shahidul Islam. Police have arrested Shahidul and produced him in court.

The government has appointed an administrator to the Barishal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which had been under the control of BNP leader Ebaidul Haque Chan. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Barishal has been given charge, with instructions to organize elections within four months as per the Chamber’s constitution. Several members had complained to the Commerce Ministry, alleging that a ‘pocket committee’ was formed through a sham election, allowing Chan to seize control.

Police have filed two separate cases under the Special Powers Act against protesters demanding justice for the murder of Imam Rais Uddin in Chattogram. Twenty-two activists were sent to jail on Tuesday following court proceedings. Meanwhile, Islami Chhatra Sena held a black flag procession condemning the brutal attacks on protesters and demanding the arrest of the killers. The group alleged that helmeted assailants armed with local weapons attacked demonstrators in front of the police, and some of them were linked to Jamaat-Shibir—but no arrests have been made.

The National Citizen’s Party (NCP) proposed lowering the voting age to 16 and the minimum age to run for parliament to 23. Leader Akhtar Hossain said many countries already treat 16-year-olds as adults and that today’s youth have access to enough information to make informed decisions. Sarjis Alam added that the NCC (proposed new constitutional body) would oversee executive accountability and constitutional appointments. The party also proposed proportional representation in the upper house of parliament.
