Speaking at a Liberal Democratic Party event, which saw over 500 professionals and former military officers join under the leadership of Lt. Gen. (Retd.) No Need for Movement for Elections, We Put This Government in Power: Nazrul Islam Khan

NCP leader Arif Sohel wrote that banning the Awami League alone is not sufficient unless it’s based on legal trials. He referred to past failures where executive orders had no effect, such as the ban on the Chhatra League. He argued for prioritizing the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the July massacre and all affiliated groups. Sohel called for a full ban on the political activities of the Awami League and its affiliates until trials are concluded. His post was shared by Hasnat Abdullah.

Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the NCP, stated that the government must move toward elections by delivering visible progress on justice and institutional reforms. He emphasized that the government should be granted time only based on performance, not delays. Hossain said that while discussions have started on constitutional matters, there has been no progress yet on reforming the judiciary, Election Commission, public administration, ACC, or police. The party also demanded rewriting the constitution and holding constituent assembly elections.

Government Must Show Visible Progress in Justice and Reforms: Akhtar Hossain

BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina must be brought to justice first, followed by members of her family, for alleged enforced disappearances, killings, and misrule. He asserted that without this, true reform and elections cannot take place. “Until democracy is firmly rooted, fascist forces will continue to oppress the people,” he added. Annie called for the destruction of authoritarianism as the movement’s next slogan.

Senior Joint Chief Coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), Abdul Hannan Masud, has clarified controversy surrounding a photo of him in a luxurious office. Masud stated that the picture was taken at a temporary NCP office, not his personal space, and he is an advisor to the labor wing of the NCP at the port—not a port authority advisor.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has accused the Awami League of establishing one-party rule through three fraudulent elections, thereby undermining the political system. He hailed the July uprising as the end of fascist rule. Parwar urged all patriotic forces to support the roadmap laid out by the interim government for holding a neutral national election. He emphasized that establishing a democratic and equitable state through fair elections is now the nation’s top priority.

Awami League Rendered Politics Ineffective Through One-Party Rule, July Uprising Ended Fascism: Golam Parwar

BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that Shaheed Ziaur Rahman taught the nation to uphold independence and sovereignty with a distinct sense of identity. Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman have all led and organized the BNP effectively. He asserted that BNP is a party of the people and that no conspiracy against it will be tolerated. Rizvi criticized some government advisers for repeatedly talking about reforms, pointing out that reforms are usually made and adjusted in parliament. He questioned the need for so much talk about reform if it is already part of the legislative process. He noted that the current government has been in power for eight months, and if elections are held in December, about eight months remain. So, how much more time is needed for reforms? He emphasized that whatever reforms are made now must be approved by the next parliament. Rizvi also criticized what he described as anti-Bangladesh ties between India and the Awami League.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman declared that although the fascist regime may have fallen, fascism itself still haunts the country. “For 15 years, the regime silenced the people and turned the country into a prison,” he said. He called for a corruption-free implementation of the Teesta Mega Plan and criticized those who build lavish estates abroad, saying true patriots do not flee their homeland. Dr. Rahman emphasized Jamaat’s commitment to ensuring dignity and safety for women, and he demanded the immediate, unconditional release of former Ameer ATM Azharul Islam.

The BNP has scheduled a rally in the Haidarabad area of Muradnagar upazila on Saturday afternoon, while the newly formed NCP (Nationalist Citizens’ Party) plans to hold its own gathering simultaneously in the Pir Kashimpur area—roughly 7 kilometers apart. Despite growing online tension between supporters of both parties, local administration reports that neither group has submitted a formal request for rally permission. Authorities, however, do not foresee any potential for clashes given the physical distance between the events. BNP leader Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad is expected to address the BNP rally, while NCP’s rally will feature Md. Billal Hossain Master, father of party adviser Asif Mahmud.
