Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has rejected a foreign travel proposal by Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, who sought to visit France to gain experience on new energy-efficient street lighting technologies. However, the Prime Minister approved the proposal of Executive Engineer (Electricity) A.B.M. Asaduzzaman Sweet for the same purpose. The decision came after reviewing a summary sent by the Local Government Division on Monday.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the visit was proposed under an invitation from Signify Bangladesh Limited to observe the Outdoor Lighting Application Center in France. The Prime Minister stated that technical knowledge from such visits should come from engineers who can apply it to city projects, noting that the administrator is not an engineer. She also advised involving BUET and other engineering universities in future innovative projects.
Sources said the Prime Minister prioritizes engaging relevant experts in state development activities and opposes unnecessary foreign trips that waste public funds. A similar proposal from Chattogram City Corporation officials for a U.S. trip on mosquito control was previously rejected.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has declared that Israel’s current regime is nearing its end, describing it as a fragile Zionist system whose days are numbered. His statement, released on Monday, comes amid heightened military tensions between Iran and Israel across the Middle East.
The remarks followed a series of attacks and counterattacks between the two countries. After Israeli airstrikes targeted southern Beirut in Lebanon, Tehran launched multiple missiles toward northern Israel on Sunday night. In response, Israel’s military carried out air and missile strikes on several military sites in western and central Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran, Isfahan, and Tabriz.
Analysts cited in the report said Khamenei’s comments reflect Iran’s uncompromising stance against Israel and suggest that the ongoing conflict could become more prolonged and complex if the current escalation continues.

Residents of Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj and Dewanganj border areas have joined the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in round-the-clock patrols to prevent illegal cross-border push-ins. The joint effort began on Sunday night as part of heightened surveillance following reports that India’s Border Security Force (BSF) had been attempting to send people across the border into Bangladesh. Local volunteers, including village police and Ansar members, have been participating in the patrols with sticks and other tools.

In Bangladesh’s National Parliament on Monday, opposition lawmaker Akhtar Hossain questioned whether separate disaster maps exist for government and opposition constituencies. He alleged that the latest TR-Kabikha allocations, announced on April 30, excluded all opposition-held seats, with funds and relief materials directed only to constituencies of ruling party MPs.
Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal termed the issue a fundamental question and said that if the allegation proved true, it would be inappropriate. Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu responded that allocations are provided to MPs who submit formal requests. He assured that those who have submitted their demands, including opposition members, would receive allocations within the next two days.
The minister added that the government continues various disaster management activities, including building shelters and maintaining emergency reserves with district administrations. He reiterated that opposition MPs who submitted requests would soon receive their allocations.

At least 50 people were injured on Monday in a violent clash between two rival groups over the position of chairman of Baroiuri Union Parishad in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj district. The confrontation began around noon in the union parishad compound and continued for nearly two hours before police intervened.

Farid Ahmad had been arrested earlier during an operation and was replaced by Kopil. After his release on bail, Farid attempted to resume his duties, which Kopil opposed. Independent Ibtedayi madrasa teachers in Bangladesh have entered the second day of a hunger strike in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, demanding inclusion under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme and the release of pending salaries. The protest began at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with participants wearing white shrouds to symbolize their determination to continue the strike until their demands are met.
The hunger strike follows a prolonged sit-in that started on May 21 under the banner of the Independent Ibtedayi Madrasa Teachers’ Welfare Committee. Despite weeks of demonstrations, the teachers claim their demands remain unfulfilled. According to the organizers, teachers submitted MPO applications between July 3 and 10 of the previous year as per the Education Ministry’s public notice, but no madrasa has yet been included in the scheme.
The teachers further allege that although the ministry approved recruitment for vacant posts, salaries and allowances for newly appointed teachers have not been released since January 2026, leaving around 1,690 teachers without pay.

Thousands of young Indians marched peacefully in Delhi on Saturday in the first public protest organized by the satirical 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP). The movement, founded by Abhijit Deepke, began as an online parody but quickly evolved into a youth-driven challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Deepke, who flew from the United States to lead the rally, said the country’s youth would no longer live in fear. The protest demanded accountability and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over exam scandals.
The CJP emerged after India’s Chief Justice compared unemployed youth to 'parasites' and 'cockroaches', sparking outrage. Deepke’s sarcastic social media call for 'all cockroaches to unite' went viral, leading to the creation of the CJP’s website and manifesto. Within two weeks, its Instagram following surpassed 22 million before the government attempted to block its account. Many Gen Z and millennial supporters see the CJP as a voice against unemployment and the failing education system.
Analysts note that the movement’s rise coincides with growing frustration over exam corruption and job scarcity. Whether the 'cockroach movement' can evolve from online satire to a lasting political force remains uncertain.

Mohammad Selim Uddin, a central executive member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation, warned that anyone attempting to take over Islami Bank Bangladesh would face consequences similar to those of past occupiers. He made the remarks on Monday morning at the inauguration of a new 'Praq Health Care Center' in Uttara’s Faydabad area of Dhaka. Selim Uddin said Jamaat could be criticized, but few could build service-oriented institutions like it.
He described Islami Bank as the country’s top bank, claiming it handles a significant portion of remittance inflows and serves as one of Bangladesh’s most successful service institutions. He urged the government to follow Islami Bank’s model to revive struggling banks instead of destabilizing the sector. Selim Uddin also called on the government to maintain peace and avoid actions that could create unrest.
Addressing other issues, he urged the BNP to adhere to the ideals of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, criticized Islami Bank’s current chairman, and demanded at least 8 percent of the national budget be allocated to healthcare.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing increasing domestic pressure as tensions rise over ongoing regional conflicts and diplomatic developments. Reports indicate that Netanyahu is worried about a potential agreement between the United States and Iran, which he views as disadvantageous for Israel. Some observers believe he may be attempting to create conditions for a renewed full-scale war.
Support remains within Israel for continuing military operations in Lebanon despite dissatisfaction over Hezbollah’s persistent attacks. However, it is unclear what further gains Israel could achieve through continued strikes, especially as President Trump has reportedly limited Israeli actions in efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
Public opinion polls suggest Netanyahu could lose his position in the upcoming Israeli elections scheduled before October, adding to the mounting political pressure he faces at home.
