Two officials, Deputy Secretary Md. Imran Ahmed and Joint Secretary AZM Nurul Haque, accused of openly campaigning for the ruling Awami League and manipulating votes, remain protected within the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Foreign Employment. Instead of facing disciplinary actions, they have been assigned influential posts and project leadership roles. Allegations suggest a powerful faction within the ministry safeguards them, raising concerns over rule violations and political interference in government administration.
Political tensions are rising in India over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral voter lists. On Monday, Congress will hold an emergency meeting in Delhi to finalize a nationwide protest plan, particularly ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections and other upcoming polls. At a meeting on Thursday night at Rahul Gandhi’s residence, Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee urged Gandhi to intensify the SIR-related protests nationwide. Continuous demonstrations are ongoing in Parliament, and tomorrow a program is set to surround the national Election Commission office in Delhi. Congress has called for joint protests, and even the Aam Aadmi Party, despite leaving the INDIA alliance, has expressed support.

AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju has claimed that most Awami League leaders are linked to massacres and plunder and are widely despised. He warned that if they contest elections, they will face mass public outrage that could spiral out of control. Speaking at a parliamentary debate, Manju said the Election Commission must have the courage to show a “red card” to any party or candidate that commits electoral violations.
He criticized the creation of a perception that a certain party would win power unopposed even before the elections, calling it a dangerous signal for fair polls.

BNP Standing Committee member Moin Khan said the democratic gains of the July uprising must not be reversed. Paying tribute to the movement’s veterans, he recalled Ziaur Rahman’s discipline, punctuality, and integrity, citing an incident where Zia delivered a scheduled speech to an empty venue rather than delay it.
Moin Khan noted that while the Awami League mocks Zia as an “unknown major,” it was this very man who risked his life to declare Bangladesh’s independence and later brought back “dictator” Sheikh Hasina, granting her the right to engage in politics. He described BNP as a centrist party and criticized the Awami League for persecuting opponents, stressing that the people of Bangladesh reject extremist politics.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has distanced the party from reports quoting a former secretary alleging corruption among eight advisers to the interim government. Fakhrul said the statement was entirely personal and not connected to BNP. “We hold the Chief Adviser and all advisers in the highest respect and have full confidence in their integrity,” he said. Earlier, ABM Abdus Sattar, president of the Anti-Discrimination Employee Unity Forum, claimed to have proof of corruption against eight advisers.

Sarwar Tushar has accused Nila Israfil of misleading the public over a hospital admission form. Nila claimed the form listed Tushar as her husband, but Tushar said the original document used the notation “C/O” (care of), which Nila covered with a red circle to hide the “C” and imply marital relation. Tushar explained that hospitals often write “C/O” followed by the person admitting the patient when a father’s or husband’s name is not available—calling Nila’s presentation “deliberate misrepresentation.”

Activist Nila Israfil has expressed doubts over who was responsible for the killing of students during recent protests, saying it remains unclear whether the deaths were caused by police under Sheikh Hasina’s orders or by religious leaders (“Hujurs”) to emotionally manipulate the public. She said had ordinary citizens known religious groups were involved in a preplanned movement, many—including herself—would not have joined.

BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed has claimed that opportunistic political parties oppose direct elections, instead favoring the Proportional Representation (PR) voting system, which the public does not understand. He described Sheikh Hasina’s rule as “the darkest chapter in the country’s political history,” accusing her of staging three sham elections to remain in power. Hafizuddin said BNP supports the traditional system through which the public has long chosen its representatives.

BNP leader Mirza Abbas has accused certain political parties of conspiring with India to prevent elections in Bangladesh. He said the interim government has worsened the country’s overall situation, claiming “Sheikh Hasina ruined the country, and this government has destroyed it even further.” Abbas alleged that BNP is being unjustly implicated in incidents of unrest. He promised that under a BNP government, martyrs of mass uprisings would receive due honor, and injured protesters would be supported. “People want an elected government. Elections and judicial proceedings can take place simultaneously, but not all members of the interim government are honest,” he said.

A discussion meeting at the Natore District Council auditorium descended into chaos when members of the “July Warriors” could not find designated seating, despite the presence of advisor Asif Mahmud. The disruption occurred shortly after noon when Mahmud arrived following a stadium inauguration. Without reserved seats, the July Warriors stood until tensions escalated, prompting intervention from officials who eventually arranged seating. Meanwhile, BNP district leaders boycotted the event, alleging they were obstructed by DB police at the entrance — a claim police have denied.

SM Farhad, president of Dhaka University Islami Chhatra Shibir, has stated that the organization is not engaged in any political activities inside university dormitories. “We only conduct service-oriented programs in the halls. Students who wish to engage in politics can do so outside their residences,” he said. Farhad added that most of their political activities take place at TSC, Madhur Canteen, and other campus locations, and no party programs have been held in hall areas. He called on the university administration to formulate a written policy in consultation with all stakeholders to protect the rights of both those who wish to engage in politics and those who do not. “We cannot support or oppose declarations that lack clear definitions,” he remarked.

BNP leader Abdul Moin Khan has said that the July Revolution was never meant to benefit corrupt opportunists. “A plundering class cannot be allowed to seize this country again and exploit it,” he stated, urging vigilance to ensure that the sacrifices of students and citizens who gave their lives are never betrayed.
Speaking at a memorial event for the late leader Abdul Matin Chowdhury, Moin Khan criticized those responsible for past injustices, saying they have shown no remorse and are now daydreaming of returning to power with foreign backing. “That dream will never come true,” he asserted.
He accused a ruling family of establishing dynastic rule under the banner of the Liberation War’s spirit, undermining democracy, and engaging in corruption and money laundering. Praising Abdul Matin Chowdhury as the “visionary of modern Rupganj,” Moin Khan pledged to name a bridge built during his tenure after him. He also expressed hope for a free and fair national election before the upcoming Ramadan.

Speaking at the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) conference, Tarique said, “As Khaleda Zia’s son and a family member who could not be by her side during this time, I sincerely thank these doctors from the bottom of my heart.”
