The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has called a press conference to respond to the formation of a new political student organization emerging from the July-August uprising. The conference is scheduled for Monday at 4 PM at Dhaka University's Modhur Canteen. In a message sent by movement coordinator Abu Bakar Mazumdar, it was stated that the press briefing aims to address the implications of forming a new political student body in the wake of the July uprising.

Police have arrested Syeda Monalisa, wife of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain and Vice President of the Central Committee of Jubo Mohila League. She was taken into custody late Sunday night from a residence on Eskaton Road, Dhaka. The officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station confirmed the arrest. According to police reports, she faces three cases in Meherpur related to attacks on students during the anti-discrimination movement.
Former Minister Farhad Hossain's Wife Arrested
Former Dhaka University president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Sadiq Qayem, commented on Facebook regarding the July uprising, stating, "Refuel the lamp before it goes out, or you will lose direction in the darkness." He further wrote, "When my brothers were martyred, they said, 'Let's see what happens!' Now, many are flocking to power for benefits." He questioned, "Have we fulfilled the conditions of the revolution? We are divided, fighting over power-sharing instead of dismantling the fascist structure and ensuring justice." He emphasized that engaging in power struggles rather than focusing on critical tasks is an insult to the martyrs.

Under the slogan 'Jago Bahe—Teesta Bachao' (Rise Up—Save Teesta), BNP and its allies have launched a two-day protest starting Monday to demand proper water distribution and river project implementation. According to party sources, they will hold a 48-hour sit-in near the Teesta River. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to inaugurate the protest at the Teesta Rail Bridge area in Lalmonirhat, while acting chairman Tarique Rahman will deliver the concluding speech. Protesters will cover a 230-kilometer stretch along the riverbank, marching to press for their demands.

Police have arrested Dolna Akter Dola (27), a central sub-committee member of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, from her home in Fulbari, Kurigram, at 9 PM on Sunday. According to police sources, she had been in hiding across various locations in Dhaka since Hasina fled. However, she returned home recently following the launch of the “Devil Hunt” operation. Acting on a tip-off, authorities detained her, and she will be presented in court for her alleged involvement in the August 4 attack on student protesters in Fulbari.
Banned Chhatra League Leader Dola Arrested
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has questioned the motives of those advocating electoral reforms to delay the national election. Speaking at a public gathering in Feni, he asserted that local elections would not be allowed before the national election under any circumstances. He accused those in power of conducting relentless oppression to hold one-sided elections. Citing a UN report, he claimed that under Hasina’s orders, her ministers and officials have orchestrated killings, resulting in the deaths of thousands of young men.
Who Wants to Delay the National Election and Why?
BNP activists have been accused of vandalizing a Jamaat-e-Islami office in Hemayetpur, Pabna. The attackers also reportedly set fire to several local houses and looted property. According to the case statement, BNP leaders at the union and upazila levels orchestrated the attack on Saturday night, with former BNP leader Yakub Ali leading the charge. Several BNP leaders, including a district Chhatra Dal official, have been named in the case.
BNP Allegedly Attacks Jamaat Office in Pabna
A case has been filed against 277 individuals, including former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and former Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, for their alleged involvement in an attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The case, lodged at Bakolia Police Station, names 127 individuals while keeping 100-150 others unidentified. According to the complaint, on August 4, the accused attacked students near a gas station with domestic and foreign weapons. Student leader Rijon allegedly attempted to kill a pickup driver with a machete. Initially, police refused to register the case, but it was accepted on court orders eight days later.

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will listen to grassroots leaders during the party’s upcoming extended meeting on February 27. Former parliamentary candidates from the 2018 elections will also attend, according to BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. He described this meeting as fulfilling a long-standing demand of party activists. When asked if this gathering would serve as an alternative to the party’s council, Rizvi clarified that it was not a replacement but a regular party event.
