Yemeni forces have carried out a ballistic missile attack on an Israeli-owned oil tanker in the northern Red Sea. The attack, announced on September 1, is said to be in support of Palestinians in Gaza and in response to Israel’s blockade and actions against them. Yemen’s armed forces confirmed the tanker was directly targeted and emphasized that such operations will continue until the blockade on Gaza is lifted. Earlier, a British maritime security firm reported an explosion on an Israeli-owned tanker near Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu port.

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against former State Minister for Information Dr. Murad Hasan in a defamation case filed over derogatory remarks against BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and the Zia family.
Lawyer Md. Moniruzzaman, representing the plaintiff, said the case was filed in 2024 by one Rumel Sarkar. Following investigation, the court found preliminary evidence supporting the allegations and issued a summons for Dr. Murad Hasan. However, as he failed to appear in court on the scheduled date, the judge ordered an arrest warrant against him.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka has issued a strict warning that anyone involved in visa fraud will be permanently barred from entering the United States. The embassy emphasized that visa fraud and illegal immigration are serious offenses and those involved could face criminal charges. Applicants are urged to be truthful during visa applications and interviews, as even minor offenses or previous violations can result in visa denial. Following the High Court’s decision to suspend DUCSU elections, Dhaka University students erupted in protest Monday afternoon. Students from various halls marched through Hallpara, TSC, and other parts of the campus, demanding the polls be held as scheduled.
Student groups including Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Union also joined the demonstrations. Returning Officer Prof. Dr. Golam Rabbani said he learned of the suspension order through the media and was awaiting official details. Later, the Chamber Court overturned the High Court’s order, clearing the way for the polls.

With Sheikh Hasina now in political asylum in New Delhi after July’s uprising, the operations of the Awami League’s propaganda wing, the Centre for Research and Information (CRI), have been taken over by her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul.
Operating from a two-story office near Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone, CRI is reportedly leading cyber campaigns against the interim government, BNP, Jamaat, and NCP using AI-generated videos and anonymous social media channels.
Analysts say CRI’s three primary goals are to discredit the interim administration, derail the upcoming parliamentary elections, and create rifts among pro-uprising forces.

Gono Odhikar Parishad leader Rashed Khan has urged immediate arrangements for Nurul Haque Nur’s treatment abroad, citing security concerns and the severity of his injuries.
“Both of his eyes were injured and his nasal bone fractured. Without advanced treatment, permanent damage is possible,” he wrote.
Rashed added, “If the attack wasn’t premeditated, blows to the head and face would not have been targeted. For his safety, he must be taken abroad immediately.”

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday stated that the party had fundamentally transformed Bangladesh’s politics and economy by establishing multi-party democracy against one-party rule.
Speaking after paying homage at Ziaur Rahman’s grave, Fakhrul said, “Attempts to destroy BNP have been made repeatedly, but like a phoenix, it has always risen again. With people’s mandate, BNP will build a prosperous nation.”
He added that holding a fair election in February remains the greatest challenge. “BNP has fully cooperated with the reform process,” Fakhrul said. Notably, the anniversary is being observed this year in a relatively favorable political climate after nearly two decades.
