JSD President ASM Abdur Rob declared that the political future of the Awami League depends on the successful prosecution of genocide cases. “This is a moral trial of the Awami League’s fascist legacy, a test of justice, humanity, and democratic accountability,” he said. The state must act as a plaintiff in the prosecution process, he added.

Ten activists from BNP-affiliated student and youth organizations have been arrested in Gazipur for demanding Tk 1 million in extortion from an NGO branch manager. The accused include Chhatra Dal’s city office secretary Borhan Uddin and several local Jubo Dal leaders. They allegedly threatened Sohel Rana, the branch manager of Srijoni Microfinance Cooperative, with death after he refused to pay.

At an event commemorating Jamaat’s former Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami’s execution, Jamaat leader Maulana Rafiq ul Islam Khan said, “The people of Bangladesh will not allow another fascist regime.” He warned against sham elections and called for local elections before national ones. He also demanded justice for all genocides and executions disguised as war crimes trials, stating that those involved—including officials, witnesses, and judges—must face prosecution.

On August 5, Mohammad Salman, a 21-year-old honors student, was shot in the abdomen in Rajshahi’s Alupotti. The bullet passed through his intestines and lodged near his spinal cord. Two surgeries were unable to remove it due to the critical location, leaving him at risk of permanent paralysis or death. On Sunday, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman sent financial aid to Salman, with plans for advanced medical treatment now underway.

During a victory rally, AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju congratulated the government for amending the International Crimes Tribunal Act and banning all Awami League activities until its genocide trial is complete. “We always demanded a judicial process, not executive punishment,” he said, criticizing the government’s previous delays. He extended gratitude to all protestors and supporters of the anti-fascist movement who helped realize this demand through street demonstrations.

Abu Hanif of Gono Adhikar Parishad has demanded the banning of the 14-party alliance and Jatiya Party, as well as the arrest of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and other top leaders. His statement follows the Advisory Council’s decision to ban the Awami League for its alleged involvement in genocide. The government has stated that an official gazette notification on this decision will be issued in the next working session.

Gono Adhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has demanded the confiscation of all assets allegedly looted by the Awami League over the past 16 years. He warned that failure to ban the party outright would endanger national sovereignty. “Delaying a final decision on Awami League will lead to a major crisis,” he cautioned. Nur accused some Advisory Council members of holding secret meetings with foreign diplomats and alleged that subsequent gestures toward rehabilitating the Awami League signal a return to authoritarianism. He also claimed that former President Abdul Hamid left the country in line with these developments.

LDP President Col. Oli Ahmed (Bir Bikram) criticized the delayed ban on the Awami League, calling it a serious blow to the nation. “Those who obstructed or delayed the decision must be held accountable before history and the people,” he said. Oli claimed the LDP had first demanded the ban on August 8 last year and praised the collective efforts of the youth and democratic forces that made it possible. He called it a historic decision and urged that trustworthy and proven individuals be appointed to key state positions to uphold national interests above personal or party loyalties.

Nahid Islam, Convener of the NCP, declared that building a “new Bangladesh” is meaningless without a new constitution. He criticized the previous constitution for failing to uphold human rights. “Only a new constitution can restore trust between the state and the people,” he said. Nahid expressed hope for consensus-driven progress and stressed the need for fundamental reforms. “Agreeing on minor issues while fundamental ones remain unresolved will lead nowhere,” he added. He also emphasized that once judicial reform gains consensus, elections should no longer be a point of contention. He called for a clear roadmap for the ongoing trials related to the Awami League, asserting that it would restore public confidence.

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed welcomed the government’s ban on the activities of the Awami League. He accused the ruling party of operating as a mafia entity, unrecognized both domestically and internationally. “Awami League does not believe in democracy; it’s not in their DNA,” he said. He also praised the initiative to amend laws to bring the party to justice for crimes against humanity and genocide. Salahuddin claimed the BNP had previously submitted a written demand to the Chief Adviser seeking accountability for the Awami League. “Had this been acted upon earlier, recent embarrassing situations could have been avoided,” he added, calling for the immediate announcement of a roadmap for national elections.

Nahid Islam, Convener of the NCP, congratulated the revolutionary student movement and praised the government. He emphasized that struggles must continue until July’s declaration is fully implemented and war criminals are prosecuted. “The Election Commission must swiftly cancel the registration of the fascist Awami League,” he demanded.

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain said the ban on the Awami League is not enough and urged supporters to remain active until justice is served. “The people must not stop at a ban. We need to ensure maximum punishment for war crimes and mass killings,” he said. “We must remember the slogans of August 5: 'If it takes rope, use rope — give Hasina the gallows.'"

On Mother’s Day, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman paid heartfelt tribute to Begum Khaleda Zia, calling her the “Mother of Democracy” and a beacon of women’s education. He said, “A mother is an incredible institution within a family. The future of a child is shaped by a noble mother’s teachings. Khaleda Zia’s life has been one of sacrifice and tireless struggle for democratic progress and social development.” He expressed hope that all mothers will be empowered to raise their children as capable and responsible citizens.

Around 4 AM at Shahbagh, Hasnat Abdullah stated, “We view the government's decision positively. The official gazette will be issued on Monday, and we will hold a victory rally upon receiving it. For now, everyone should return home. We’ll announce our next steps after the notification is published.” Earlier, all trial proceedings involving the Awami League were suspended under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The interim government is expected to issue the formal notification on Monday.

During a press conference held by a BNP leader at the Upazila Press Club in Patharghata, Barguna, former Chhatra Dal leader Amit Hasan Shuvo and his associates launched an attack, assaulting five individuals including journalists. Al Hadid, joint convener of the municipal Jubo Dal, said the press conference was being held to protest false reporting against Maulana Shamim Ahmed, a central committee member of the Olama Dal. The attackers stormed the venue mid-conference and began physically assaulting those present.
