Jamaat-e-Islami leader Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul claimed that past elections only resulted in changes in political power without establishing people’s rights. He asserted that Jamaat-e-Islami has been persistently oppressed despite not holding state power and highlighted the party’s longstanding efforts in social welfare, regardless of political or religious affiliation.

Leaders and activists protested in Chattogram demanding justice for Maulana Muhammad Rais Uddin, a student organization leader allegedly tortured and killed. They issued a 72-hour ultimatum to identify and arrest the perpetrators, warning of nationwide protests if demands are not met.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar stated that since August 5, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has shot and killed 16 Bangladeshis and injured 48 others. Condemning the killing of Mohammad Obaidul from Maheshpur, he urged the Bangladesh government to take strong diplomatic measures to stop such incidents and demanded India cease border killings if it desires good relations.

BNP leader Amir Khosru said that Bangladeshis did not fight and sacrifice to hand over the country’s leadership to a ‘superman.’ He questioned the narrative that democracy must wait for a savior, emphasizing instead the people’s right to vote. Khosru highlighted that nearly 50 parties have clearly demanded elections before December and called for immediate electoral reforms and setting an election roadmap.

Lawyer Md. Moniruzzaman has issued a legal notice urging authorities to halt the gazette notification and swearing-in of BNP leader Ishraq Hossain as mayor. He argues the decision was made hastily and without proper procedure. “We expected the Election Commission to challenge the tribunal’s ruling, but they didn’t. Instead, a revised gazette was issued without consulting the Law Ministry,” he stated. He further claimed that the mayoral term had already ended and the post was declared vacant by ordinance, rendering the tribunal’s order ineffective.

Khelafat Majlis leader Maulana Mamunul Haque called for building unity from the grassroots level to defend Islam and the nation’s dignity. Speaking to party workers in Sherpur, Bogura, after returning from a visit to Rangpur, he said, “Victory is assured through the power of faith. We must stand tall against injustice, despite hardships and obstacles.”

Jagannath University students locked their department gates in protest after Akram Hossain, a participant in the July Movement, was assaulted and handed over to police by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists, who accused him of attacking them during his first year. Akram denied political affiliations, stating he was once taken to rallies by senior members but never formally involved with Chhatra League and had actively participated in the July Uprising.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticized the interim government for not consulting political parties before deciding to open a humanitarian corridor for the Rakhine people. He warned that such a move concerns the nation’s sovereignty and peace. Fakhrul emphasized the lack of action in repatriating Rohingya refugees and urged for reforms, including national elections to protect the country’s interests.

During a court hearing related to the murder of madrasa student Shahid Solaiman during the July Uprising, former Law Minister Anisul Huq was granted a four-day remand. After his appearance under heavy security, a group of lawyers slapped and assaulted him as he exited the Narayanganj court. Police quickly escorted him back to prison.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman stated that despite facing persecution and awaiting execution in solitary confinement, Maulana Abdus Subhan never showed fear. Even while imprisoned, he cared for fellow inmates. “True leaders must understand their people — something sorely lacking today,” he said. Subhan remained calm even after hearing his death sentence. “If you love your country and your people, you never flee — as our leaders have proven,” he added. BNP’s Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas also accused the deposed government of wrongfully indicting Subhan in crimes against humanity to humiliate him, saying the current Awami League leadership has now fled the country in disgrace.

Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer for the southern region of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), wished party convener and former interim government adviser Nahid Islam a happy birthday, calling him “the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh.” Commenting on the post, M Nur Hasan referred to Nahid as the “hero of the July Uprising.” Previously, Chief Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam had also remarked that Nahid Islam could one day become the country’s prime minister.

Sarjees Alam wrote that a few months after the July Uprising, he came to know Dr. Tasnim Zara, Samantha Sharmin, Monira Sharmin, Nahida Sarwar Niva, and Tajnuva Zabeen. Observing their participation in discussions and decision-making processes, he concluded that these individuals are not only gems of the NCP but also future treasures of Bangladesh. He noted that, unlike the past when women’s representation was limited to token “quota” or “reserved seat” postings, Zara, Samantha, and their peers represent true participation and leadership. He urged against criticism driven by habit and encouraged appreciation for genuine efforts.

In a press statement, the BNP announced that despite facing severe oppression, disappearances, killings, and harassment during the fascist era, they led the movement to restore democracy. Aiming to establish democracy, accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance, the BNP and its affiliated organizations are actively reaching out to the people across the country. Youth organizations like Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal are working jointly. They have divided the country’s ten organizational divisions into four major regions and planned an integrated and dynamic campaign. Each region will host a two-day program: the first day will feature a seminar titled “Youth’s Vision for the Future Bangladesh,” and the second day will hold a rally to establish the political rights of the youth.

Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, stated that the reforms finalized through discussions must be implemented under the current government. He emphasized that everyone must remain committed and work forcefully to implement effective reforms in the greater interest of the nation. National interests should take precedence over personal, party, or group interests. Nur added that while many individuals protested in their own capacities, the political reality limited what could be achieved. However, the July Uprising created a new political context. It is reported that Gono Odhikar Parishad has expressed written agreement on 127 out of the 166 proposals from the National Consensus Commission, partial agreement on 23, and disagreement on 15 proposals.

The Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP) organized a torch rally and protest assembly under Shyampur-Kadamtali police station, demanding the banning of the Awami League and an end to extortion activities. Protesters chanted slogans warning Awami League supporters and extortionists that such practices would no longer be tolerated. Leaders from Shyampur, Jatrabari, and Kadamtali units were present. The NCP vowed to continue its movement until the Awami League is officially banned.
