BNP leader Mostafizur Rahman Babul made a controversial statement, demanding both the return and execution of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“We want Sheikh Hasina back, we want Mirza Azam back, we want Obaidul Quader back—but we also want Sheikh Hasina to be hanged,” he declared.

He lamented that in the past 15-16 years, people have been unable to vote freely, elect MPs, or form local governments. He claimed that the most persecuted person in the country is BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, whom he referred to as the “Mother of Democracy.” Babul accused the ruling government of imprisoning her for years under false cases and pushing her toward death through “kangaroo court” verdicts.

NCP leader Samanta Sharmin declared in Bhola that there is no place for the Awami "terrorist" party in Bangladesh. She called for the prosecution of this "fascist and genocidal" party in an international court. Sharmin stated that for 15 years, one party ruled Bangladesh, but on August 5, the student movement ousted the Awami League. However, she noted that some groups, who were nowhere to be found during those years, are now trying to take credit. She accused them of extortion and spreading fear in local communities. She emphasized that Bangladesh's student movement stands firm against corruption and terrorism.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has questioned the necessity of holding a Constituent Assembly election, asking whether Bangladesh had ever become a newly independent state again.

“A Constituent Assembly is only needed when a country gains independence, has no laws, no constitution, and no government,” he argued. Rizvi accused the ruling party of attempting to erase the memory of Bangladesh’s greatest achievement in 1971 by introducing the idea of a “second independence” through a new Constituent Assembly.

He criticized government-aligned student leaders and newly formed political groups for promoting this idea, asking, “On whose behalf are you speaking?” Addressing the government, he accused it of playing a deceptive game with election dates, mentioning shifting timelines from March to June to December. He insisted that any reforms should be carried out by an elected government, while the current regime could only propose them.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that the party will take to the streets if the interests of the party and the people are harmed. He claimed that domestic and international conspiracies are at play and vowed not to let any such plots succeed. He specifically mentioned that if individuals from France, London, or the U.S. attempt to incite the people of Bangladesh, BNP will resist it.

Fakhrul reiterated that BNP is not aligned with either India or Pakistan but stands solely for Bangladesh. Reflecting on the party’s struggles over the past 17 years, he pointed out that BNP has actively protested, including demonstrations on the banks of the Teesta River. He alleged that 99% of BNP supporters have faced persecution. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he remarked, “One day, Allah made Hasina disappear, and people found peace.”

Regarding Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, he said that the people have chosen him as the Chief Adviser to ensure a level playing field for the upcoming elections. He asserted that the public will not accept this government indefinitely.

In Kaukhali, Pirojpur, members of the opposition student group, Chhatra Dal, were attacked while putting up posters, allegedly by members of the banned Chhatra League. The incident left five people injured. Local Chhatra League leaders claim the clash resulted from a social media dispute. Chhatra Dal activists allege that supporters of Awami League-affiliated leaders led the attack when they were putting up Eid greeting posters.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Mexico, Mushfiqur Fazal Ansari, has hailed the Yunus administration’s decision to partner with Elon Musk’s Starlink as a strategic move. In an interview with The Diplomat, he highlighted how this agreement would enhance Bangladesh’s technological ties with the U.S. and strengthen diplomatic relations with Washington. The deal aims to boost economic opportunities, increase employment, and provide uninterrupted internet access for Bangladeshi freelancers working with international outsourcing firms.

NCP Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam has expressed his lifelong aspiration to see Dr. Muhammad Yunus serve as the elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh for five years. In a social media post, Sarjis reiterated this desire, recalling how Yunus was appointed as head of the interim government following a mass uprising last year. Eight months have passed since then, marked by significant political challenges.

NCP Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah has criticized the country’s leadership, stating, "Our leadership is full of hypocrisy. They preach values they do not practice." He called for exposing these "fraudsters" and cleansing society of corruption, bribery, and exploitative power structures. He highlighted issues such as unqualified individuals taking control of school committees and political circles being dominated by a few families. Addressing the concerns of his locality, he added, "If you're not from Debidwar, you won't understand its problems. Some believe in maintaining family dynasties, which is why they keep coming back here. Those of us living in Debidwar know the real challenges."

Akhtar Hossain, Secretary-General of the NCP, stated that the next election should be a Constituent Assembly election, where elected representatives will establish a new constitution for the country. He emphasized that justice for the July massacre and ensuring the accountability of the Awami League were critical for Bangladesh’s future. He called for the restoration of the balance of power within the state’s three branches to prevent authoritarianism.

Kazi Monirul Haque, former chairman of Alfadanga Upazila and a Youth League leader, was arrested by Indian police for staying illegally in the country. Monirul and his son Kazi Sagar, along with associate Zafar Mia, were detained on March 26 in Nadia, India. They entered India without proper documents. Additionally, Monirul’s son’s wife was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Lalbagh, Bangladesh.

A case has been filed against 23 individuals, including student leader Sohel Rari, for attacking two journalists and burning a motorcycle at the Barishal court gate. The accused have been charged with issuing death threats against the journalists. Local BNP leaders, including Abul Kalam Shaheen and Afroza Khanam Nasreen, visited the injured journalists in the hospital, declaring that the party would not take responsibility for personal crimes but would take organizational action.

Rashed Khan, a leader of Gono Adhikar Parishad, asserted that the upcoming national election must occur in December. He noted the deterioration of law and order and political unrest, questioning whether the elections would proceed as planned or if Bangladesh would experience another emergency like 1/11. He vowed that his party would not allow a return to authoritarian rule and demanded the disbanding of the Awami League.

Umama Fatema, spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Movement, stated that it is up to the interim government to decide whether Awami League politics will continue. She mentioned that they would play a key role in reshaping politics and ensuring accountability for the Awami League, which has been accused of corruption and authoritarianism. Fatema warned that if the opposition does not stand up to the Awami League, it will return to power in the future.

Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, a senior leader of the BNP, affirmed that his party is the true advocate for political reform in Bangladesh. He highlighted that under Khaleda Zia’s leadership, BNP revolutionized women’s leadership, expanded women’s education, and introduced loan programs for female entrepreneurs. Zahid emphasized that BNP is committed to building a sovereign and prosperous Bangladesh based on the values of the Liberation War.

BNP leader Amir Khasru observed that many people are now adopting Sheikh Hasina’s rhetoric, claiming, “We are developing the country. We are implementing large projects.” He pointed out that even the interim government is claiming, “We are implementing reforms,” while ignoring their primary responsibility of holding fair elections. Khasru stressed, “Every day without democracy is a wasted day. Please restore democracy.”
