Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that recognizing good work by police officers will enhance their morale and make the force more dynamic. He made the remarks on Monday at a press conference held in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat.
The minister explained that the event was organized to inform the public about the efforts and dedication of the police in meeting citizens’ expectations. He emphasized that recognition would encourage officers to perform their duties with integrity and strengthen the rule of law. Ahmed added that the ministry aims to further boost the police force’s motivation and efficiency.
According to the minister, 15 police officers have been honored for their roles in three recent incidents, including the Ramisa murder case, the actions of the river police in Daulatdia, and the arrest of four suspects in a gang rape case in Munshiganj. Each officer received 20,000 taka, a certificate of honor, and some were awarded badges.

Independent Ibtedayi madrasa teachers in Bangladesh have entered the second day of a hunger strike in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, demanding inclusion under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme and the release of pending salaries. The protest began at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with participants wearing white shrouds to symbolize their determination to continue the strike until their demands are met.
The hunger strike follows a prolonged sit-in that started on May 21 under the banner of the Independent Ibtedayi Madrasa Teachers’ Welfare Committee. Despite weeks of demonstrations, the teachers claim their demands remain unfulfilled. According to the organizers, teachers submitted MPO applications between July 3 and 10 of the previous year as per the Education Ministry’s public notice, but no madrasa has yet been included in the scheme.
The teachers further allege that although the ministry approved recruitment for vacant posts, salaries and allowances for newly appointed teachers have not been released since January 2026, leaving around 1,690 teachers without pay.

Thousands of young Indians marched peacefully in Delhi on Saturday in the first public protest organized by the satirical 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP). The movement, founded by Abhijit Deepke, began as an online parody but quickly evolved into a youth-driven challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Deepke, who flew from the United States to lead the rally, said the country’s youth would no longer live in fear. The protest demanded accountability and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over exam scandals.
The CJP emerged after India’s Chief Justice compared unemployed youth to 'parasites' and 'cockroaches', sparking outrage. Deepke’s sarcastic social media call for 'all cockroaches to unite' went viral, leading to the creation of the CJP’s website and manifesto. Within two weeks, its Instagram following surpassed 22 million before the government attempted to block its account. Many Gen Z and millennial supporters see the CJP as a voice against unemployment and the failing education system.
Analysts note that the movement’s rise coincides with growing frustration over exam corruption and job scarcity. Whether the 'cockroach movement' can evolve from online satire to a lasting political force remains uncertain.

Mohammad Selim Uddin, a central executive member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation, warned that anyone attempting to take over Islami Bank Bangladesh would face consequences similar to those of past occupiers. He made the remarks on Monday morning at the inauguration of a new 'Praq Health Care Center' in Uttara’s Faydabad area of Dhaka. Selim Uddin said Jamaat could be criticized, but few could build service-oriented institutions like it.
He described Islami Bank as the country’s top bank, claiming it handles a significant portion of remittance inflows and serves as one of Bangladesh’s most successful service institutions. He urged the government to follow Islami Bank’s model to revive struggling banks instead of destabilizing the sector. Selim Uddin also called on the government to maintain peace and avoid actions that could create unrest.
Addressing other issues, he urged the BNP to adhere to the ideals of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, criticized Islami Bank’s current chairman, and demanded at least 8 percent of the national budget be allocated to healthcare.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing increasing domestic pressure as tensions rise over ongoing regional conflicts and diplomatic developments. Reports indicate that Netanyahu is worried about a potential agreement between the United States and Iran, which he views as disadvantageous for Israel. Some observers believe he may be attempting to create conditions for a renewed full-scale war.
Support remains within Israel for continuing military operations in Lebanon despite dissatisfaction over Hezbollah’s persistent attacks. However, it is unclear what further gains Israel could achieve through continued strikes, especially as President Trump has reportedly limited Israeli actions in efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
Public opinion polls suggest Netanyahu could lose his position in the upcoming Israeli elections scheduled before October, adding to the mounting political pressure he faces at home.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Iran’s billions of dollars in frozen assets will not be released until a permanent ceasefire agreement formally ends the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump stated that the release of Iranian funds would only be considered after a deal is signed and if Tehran demonstrates good behavior. He also warned that the U.S. is either very close to a deal or prepared to launch a severe attack.
Iranian officials have indicated that without partial release of the frozen assets, a ceasefire agreement may not be possible. Iran’s state media reported that Tehran is demanding the release of 12 to 24 billion dollars as part of the deal, describing it as a test of trust. The frozen assets, estimated at over 100 billion dollars, have been held in foreign banks due to international sanctions.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, tensions remain high. Iran’s parliament speaker warned of possible retaliation for Israeli strikes in Beirut and U.S. naval blockades, while a U.S. official told Al Jazeera that Washington holds Hezbollah fully responsible for the Lebanon conflict.

A Dhaka court has dismissed a case filed against former interim government chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, former health adviser Nur Jahan Begum, and three others. The case alleged negligence and deliberate actions leading to child deaths and illness due to failures in measles vaccination during the interim government period. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court issued the dismissal order on Monday, June 8, following a hearing.
The case was filed by Mujibur Rahman Iqbal, a Member of Parliament from Kishoreganj-5, in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Josita Islam. The other accused were former Health Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman, former special assistant to the chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Sayedur Rahman, and former Director General of Health Services Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zafar. The complaint claimed that the interim government halted UNICEF’s vaccine imports, causing shortages and preventable child deaths.
Earlier, on May 5, the Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said the government would investigate why vaccines were not administered during that period, though he personally believed there was no malicious intent behind the lapse.

U.S. President Donald Trump walked out of NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’ interview after calling the program’s host, Kristen Welker, dishonest. The interview was recorded on Friday in Wisconsin and aired on Sunday. The confrontation arose when Welker asked Trump for evidence supporting his claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
During the exchange, Trump alleged irregularities in both the 2020 U.S. presidential election and California’s gubernatorial race, arguing that ballot counting was taking too long. Welker responded that such timing was normal in California’s election process. When pressed for proof of fraud, Trump accused Welker of dishonesty, then extended the accusation to NBC itself.
Trump ended the interview abruptly, removed his microphone, and said, “Let’s end this here, that’s enough. Thank you, have a good time.” The incident was reported by The Guardian and highlighted renewed tension between Trump and major U.S. media outlets.

Officials reported that mutation services were disrupted due to server issues, after which he ordered show-cause notices for those responsible. He also directed that the information center be run with dedicated staff and emphasized prioritizing service quality and efficiency over working hours.

Tension spread in Dewanganj municipality of Jamalpur after allegations that activists of the banned Chhatra League detonated several crude bombs at multiple locations on Tuesday evening. In protest, leaders and activists of the municipal Chhatra Dal and BNP organized a motorcycle showdown across the town, demanding punishment for those responsible and chanting slogans against the Chhatra League. The incidents reportedly occurred in areas including the station, Gabtoli, and Kalitala, though no casualties were reported.
Biplob Mondal, convener of the Dewanganj municipal Chhatra Dal and BNP’s municipal student affairs secretary, alleged that the explosions were carried out under the direction of the upazila Chhatra League general secretary after a failed rally attempt two days earlier. However, the Chhatra League denied the accusations and blamed the BNP and Chhatra Dal instead. Dewanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain stated that he personally inspected the reported sites but found no evidence or eyewitnesses of any explosions. Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee made politically sensitive remarks in Kolkata’s Dharmatala, claiming she knew who was behind the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson of Bangladesh’s Inquilab Manch. She said the killers entered India through the Meghalaya border and were arrested by the West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force (STF). Banerjee alleged that India’s Home Minister Amit Shah personally called her, asking that the arrests not be made public for national interest.
Banerjee further stated that she knew who ordered the killing but would not reveal names to avoid unrest in Bangladesh. The report interprets her comments as directly implicating Amit Shah. The two main suspects, Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul and Alamgir Hossain, are currently in custody of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) after being interrogated by the STF.
The article connects this case to previous allegations of Indian intelligence-linked assassinations abroad, including incidents in Canada, the United States, and Pakistan, suggesting a broader pattern of covert operations. It concludes that Banerjee’s statements could expose another major controversy involving India’s intelligence network.

A report from Kolkata claims that a new and controversial development has emerged in West Bengal’s border politics less than a month after the BJP-led government took power. According to an unnamed senior police official, authorities allegedly released prisoners from jails and gathered them near the border to secretly push them into Bangladesh, after failing to locate enough undocumented migrants or Rohingyas. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) reportedly resisted these attempts, leading to heightened tension between the BSF and BGB. Some of those prisoners were said to have been released back into local areas when push-in efforts failed.
The report further mentions that former intelligence sources have linked these incidents to deeper geopolitical maneuvers involving India and Bangladesh. It alleges that while Sheikh Hasina and her close associates are staying in India, trained agents are being sent into Bangladesh, raising security concerns. Another claim suggests a covert plan to separate Chittagong as an independent state, allegedly backed by Western interests.
Residents of the border areas described living in fear and uncertainty as increased patrols and unfamiliar movements disrupted daily life and agriculture.
Report alleges BSF push-in attempts spark India-Bangladesh border tension
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) began their 57th director general-level border conference in New Delhi on Monday, June 8, 2026. The four-day meeting, running until June 11, marks the first such high-level dialogue since Bangladesh’s new BNP-led government took office. The BGB delegation, led by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, includes 15 senior officials and representatives from key ministries and agencies. Bangladesh is prioritizing seven unresolved and sensitive issues, including border killings and alleged forced push-ins by BSF personnel.
According to the source, Bangladesh intends to raise concerns over continued border shootings, illegal infiltration attempts, arms and drug smuggling, and the presence of armed groups in Indian territory. The government expects India to commit to non-disturbance along the border. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the meeting would focus on border management, cooperation, and recent push-in incidents, emphasizing dialogue for sustainable solutions.
The outcome of this conference is viewed as crucial for the depth of bilateral relations and the effectiveness of future border management between the two neighboring countries.
