Mazharul Islam, newly elected GS of JUCSU, hailed his alliance’s sweeping win as a victory for all Jahangirnagar University students. Supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir, the alliance won 20 seats with thousands of votes.
“This mandate is not for personal gain but a trust placed by students to safeguard their rights,” Mazharul said, pledging inclusive leadership that respects the campus’ cultural diversity and individual freedoms. He also called for unity, inviting defeated candidates to work together, and announced a thanksgiving prayer at the central mosque.

NCP convener Nahid Islam alleged there have been attempts to attack and discredit Mahfuz Alam — a central figure in the mass-movement leadership and an adviser — including prior incidents in the United States and a foiled attempt in London. Nahid accused “Awami fascists” of repeatedly targeting Mahfuz and warned that others could become targets next.

He also criticized the interim government for failing to take decisive action after attacks on Mahfuz and said neither advisers nor the press secretary have commented. “A tacit consensus within the government and advisory council has been created to sideline and even endanger Mahfuz Alam,” Nahid wrote, asserting that such arbitrary use of Mahfuz by state actors is pushing him toward death. He vowed that these actions would be answered politically.

Islami Andolan Bangladesh has announced a joint movement to ensure the legal foundation of the “July Charter” and to introduce proportional representation (PR) in the electoral system.
Party leader Muhammad Rezaul Karim stated that the sacrifices of students and citizens during the July uprising aimed at permanently uprooting dictatorship. While Sheikh Hasina’s fall was part of that demand, Karim warned that the government is preparing for elections without constitutional and political reforms, which could push the nation back into old cycles of turmoil.

Ataur Rahman, first joint convener of the NCP district committee in Sunamganj, rejected allegations that he illegally occupied shop land and a ferry-ghat in the Chawk Bazar area, calling the accusations false and politically driven. He said the land in question was purchased by him and that he allowed two people to stay there for humanitarian reasons; those individuals later joined Awami League politics.

Ataur said a dispute arose when he asked them to vacate to build a permanent house. One party left, but the other refused, and, he alleges, Farid Ahmed — a local Awami League organizer — conspired with relatives to stage a false human-chain protest against him. Ataur claimed the organizer had earlier sought administrative help to lease the boat landing, which Ataur opposed; he says the organizer retaliated with the campaign. Local traders held a protest against Ataur on Tuesday afternoon.

At a teachers’ roundtable, former MP Habibul Islam Habib accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government of having destroyed both the electoral process and the education system. He asserted that in the February election, “people will vote for whom they choose; there will be no more night-time voting.”

Addressing teachers’ responsibilities, Habib recalled campaigning under the ruling party’s emblem during his tenure as MP and described alleged mistreatment he suffered in detention. He also pledged that, if re-elected, he would upgrade Patkelghata police station to an upazila.

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that, despite tactical political differences, a national unity against fascism is essential to defend the country’s independence and sovereignty. He called for a cultural shift in democratic politics aligned with the public’s expectations for mass awakening, aiming to eradicate authoritarian political subcultures.

Salahuddin warned that those demanding immediate, wholesale reforms may have ulterior motives. He urged elected government, a functioning parliament, and changes in political culture to achieve genuine democratization. Professor Ali Riaz noted that the Consensus Commission prepared its reform blueprint based on civil-society input, though it has been presented differently by some quarters.

Despite allegations of widespread irregularities in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections, JCD-backed female AGS candidate Anjuman Iqra has called on students to accept the results in the greater interest of the student body.

In a statement, she wrote, “Beyond winning or losing, our duty was to ensure a fair vote for the students. But despite visible irregularities, we must accept the outcome for the sake of student interests.” She expressed gratitude to JCD for nominating her and urged party leaders to reflect on mistakes while pledging to work toward building a better campus environment.

A torchlight procession was held in Brahmanbaria’s Budhanti Union, protesting against BNP leader Rumin Farhana. Local BNP activists and residents alleged that Rumin misled the Election Commission during a constituency hearing by presenting “false information” in favor of excluding Budhanti and Chandura unions from the Brahmanbaria-3 seat.

Hundreds joined the protest, organized under the supervision of former Jubo Dal leader Md. Mizanur Rahman. Demonstrators accused Rumin of acting against the people’s interest and urged authorities to restore Budhanti and Chandura unions under the Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.

GOP leader Rashed Khan strongly condemned the egging and attempted public humiliation of adviser Mahfuz Alam in London, calling the incident an act of political intimidation. “They disgraced Mahfuz Alam’s vehicle in London by hurling eggs. Soon people will understand how dangerous these forces and their henchmen are,” Rashed wrote.

He warned that today it may be Mahfuz Alam, but tomorrow it could be any one of us. Rashed denounced the attack as an act of political terrorism by Awami League militants and their associates and urged resistance to the growing culture of intimidation, cautioning that the country will pay a heavy price if such tactics continue.

BNP leader Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan Jewel pledged that, if his party wins power, primary healthcare will be extended to the union (local) level. Addressing the opening of a free medical camp at Chula Model High School ground in Gotashia Union, Monohardi, Narsingdi, Jewel said BNP would deploy MBBS doctors at union clinics, increase bed capacity at upazila health complexes, and implement a health card for every citizen.

The free camp provided medical consultations and medicines to about 1,500 people, with services delivered by some 40 specialist physicians.

Akhtar Hossain, secretary of the NCIP, has called for the drafting of a new constitution that clearly guarantees the rights of workers and the general populace. Speaking at a workers’ rally, he criticized the existing constitution for failing to protect labor and popular rights and said it has not delivered freedom to the people of Bangladesh.

“We urge the government and political parties to formulate a new constitution that explicitly secures workers’ rights and the rights of the people,” Akhtar said. He argued that, despite the upheaval of 1971 and later movements, workers’ protections remain unfulfilled. Although a labor recommendation committee was formed, he noted, its proposals have not yet been implemented.

Akhtar emphasized the risks workers face on the job and the absence of guaranteed safety and justice. “Workers drive the economy and the state, yet they remain deprived of fair treatment when accessing offices, courts and public services. Workers form the majority but are continually sidelined,” he said, calling for dignity, protection and enforceable rights for the nation’s labor force.

BNP leader and freedom fighter Hasan Uddin Sarkar has called for greater emphasis on sports alongside education to combat drug abuse and promote a healthier society.

Speaking at a friendly girls’ football match held at Tongi Pilot School and Girls’ College ground, Sarkar said, “To build a drug-free society, we must prioritize sports along with studies. Regular physical activity is essential for both mental and physical well-being.”

The exhibition match featured Gazipur Haidarabad Sporting Club and Bogura Dupchachia Women’s Football Team. After a goalless draw in regulation time, the match was decided in a penalty shootout, where Gazipur Haidarabad Sporting Club clinched victory 3-2.

BNP leader Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu said student union election results at one or two universities will have no bearing on the upcoming national election.
“Thousands of student votes cannot compare to the will of millions in rural Bangladesh. The people are eagerly waiting to vote for BNP’s paddy-sheaf symbol under Tarique Rahman’s leadership,” he said.
Dulu added that BNP leaders and activists have faced the harshest repression, arrests, enforced disappearances, and killings over the past 17 years, but people have not forgotten the injustices under Awami League rule.
He expressed confidence that BNP would return to power with a sweeping victory.

Islami Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam warned that if JUCSU results are not announced swiftly, Jahangirnagar University students will reclaim their rights just as they did in July.
He accused the administration of attempting to derail the election through slow counting and “partisan political games.”
“Our clear message: results must be declared promptly in line with students’ votes. Otherwise, the university administration—and even the interim government—will be held accountable,” Zahidul stated.

BNP leader Abdul Awal Mintoo has declared that Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh once the date for the 13th National Parliamentary Election is officially announced.

Speaking to reporters, Mintoo emphasized that the outcome of university student union elections has no bearing on the upcoming national polls. “BNP is a large democratic party that firmly believes in the people’s right to vote and in democracy itself,” he said.

Raising concerns about governance, Mintoo noted that questions about the government’s legitimacy cast a shadow over the election process. He criticized the deteriorating law-and-order situation, pointing to incidents of mob justice and politically motivated blame-shifting.

While acknowledging that some BNP activists had been involved in misconduct, Mintoo said, “We have already expelled three to four thousand leaders and workers from the party for such activities.”
