Syria's interim government has introduced a new national emblem—the Golden Eagle—as a symbol of hope, sovereignty, and democratic aspirations following years of conflict. Featuring three stars and symbolic feathers, it represents unity, resistance, and the country’s five regions and 14 provinces. President Ahmed al-Sharaa called it a sign of rebirth, moving beyond Bashar al-Assad’s autocratic rule. Celebrations erupted nationwide, while officials highlighted efforts to redefine Syria’s global image. The emblem will soon appear on official documents, including passports and ID cards.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has placed 139 employees on administrative leave after they publicly criticized the Trump administration’s environmental policies using official job titles. A letter titled “Declaration of Dissent,” signed by EPA staff and recently dismissed workers, accused the administration of weakening regulations and suppressing science to favor polluters. The EPA stated that using government titles in protest misled the public and violated agency policy. An investigation is underway, and the agency is also undergoing structural changes, including canceling research grants.

Ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th general election, BNP’s allied parties have entrusted senior leader Tarique Rahman with the responsibility of finalizing seat-sharing arrangements. While no official decisions have been made yet, alliance leaders say they have full confidence in his leadership. NCP convenor Nahid Islam has demanded justice for the victims of the July uprising before any political reform or election can take place. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has denied rumors of a potential meeting between party founder Imran Khan and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif. The party stated that no formal proposal has been made and any decision would rest solely with Imran Khan. Hassan Sohag, Joint Convener of Chhatra Dal’s Comilla University unit, has been accused of assaulting a newly appointed university staff member on his very first day. The victim joined as an office assistant on July 3 and was reportedly slapped by Sohag that same evening. Sohag admitted to slapping him in anger for not answering phone calls. Allegations suggest the incident was tied to dissatisfaction over recruitment decisions, despite monetary dealings. Though Sohag is no longer a student, he is reportedly involved in lobbying and recruitment irregularities. Chhatra Dal has promised disciplinary and legal action if the claims are verified.

Gono Odhikar Parishad has protested the court’s acceptance of a case related to an attack on its members in Barishal. The incident occurred when the party tried to stop Awami League members from joining a Jatiya Party procession. Senior leader Abu Hanif said, “The judiciary is still under the influence of fascists. Just like verdicts used to come from Hasina’s instructions, we must now find out whose orders are at play.” He condemned the filing of cases against 25 leaders including Nurul Haque Nur and Rashed Khan and accused the Jatiya Party and 14-party alliance of protecting the regime.

At a rally organized by Ganosamhati Andolan demanding recognition, justice, and rehabilitation for the martyrs and injured of the July–August uprising, families spoke of continued neglect. Many still await proper medical care, identification of bodies, or even official acknowledgment. Photographer and activist Shahidul Alam said, “None of those in power today stood on the frontlines or took bullets. If we fail to honor those who did, history will remember us as traitors.” Ganosamhati leader Zonayed Saki called for an official list of martyrs, medical support, and full recognition before August 5.

At ISKCON’s Rath Yatra celebration, BNP Chairperson's personal secretary ABM Abdus Sattar pledged that if the party comes to power, it will ensure the safety of Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and other minorities. “Not even a scratch will be allowed on any minority citizen under BNP rule,” he assured. Sattar also promised a Tk 50 crore allocation for the development of the Swamibag ISKCON temple. He condemned attacks on minorities during the Awami League’s tenure and pledged investigations—even if BNP members are implicated. He added that BNP Secretary General was expected to attend the event but was unable to due to illness.

BNP Chairperson’s advisor Abdus Salam claimed that the fascist Hasina government has never dared to challenge India, and the current regime is no different. Speaking at a public rally in Bhangura, Pabna, on Friday, Salam said, “Only BNP has the courage to speak firmly to India.” He emphasized that BNP is not a party of plunderers, but one of the people—a party that deserves the responsibility of safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty. He urged voters in Pabna-3 to elect agriculturalist Hasan Zafar Tuhin with overwhelming support.

BNP central leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu has asserted that justice should not be limited to those involved in the rigged elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024, but must also include the perpetrators of the 2008 election manipulation and those behind the events of 1/11 (January 11, 2007 political crisis). Dulu cited former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s autobiography, where he claimed that the Awami League came to power through electoral manipulation in 2008, resulting in the BNP’s defeat. "That fraudulent election marked the beginning of widespread persecution and killings of BNP activists," Dulu stated. He further claimed that Tarique Rahman remains in exile due to the torture inflicted upon him. Dulu called for the swift implementation of the 31-point reform agenda and demanded that fresh, fair elections be held by February after necessary reforms.

Dhaka North BNP Joint Convener S.M. Jahangir Hossain has stated that the BNP is moving forward with a vision to establish a humane and welfare-oriented state, following the 31-point “State Reform Plan” announced by party leader Tarique Rahman. Speaking at a leaflet distribution campaign in Uttara Azampur, he emphasized that the public no longer supports authoritarian rule. He added, "These 31 points are not just political promises—they are a blueprint for national revival." The campaign event, which drew thousands of party leaders and activists, was conducted in a festive and spirited atmosphere.

In a compassionate gesture, former Member of Parliament and BNP leader Md. Harunur Rashid has extended financial and humanitarian support to a struggling family in Faridganj, Chandpur, where six siblings have been physically disabled since childhood.

On Friday, Rashid personally visited the family’s home to provide direct cash assistance and announced plans to build a new house for them. He also arranged food supplies to ease their immediate hardship. The siblings, who became disabled following typhoid infections in early childhood, have been living in dire conditions due to a lack of medical care and proper housing.

Local residents have praised Harunur Rashid’s actions, describing them as a much-needed act of humanity toward a long-neglected family.
