BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government to declare a clear and immediate roadmap for elections, saying it is the only solution to the ongoing political crisis. "Talking around the issue won't help. Electoral reforms are already part of an ongoing process. The National Consensus Commission will soon announce the points on which political parties have agreed," he stated. Speaking on the recent Ishraque verdict, Fakhrul added, "The high court has delivered a judgment that respects the rule of law. This is a victory for the people."

Leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal staged a protest at Shahbagh demanding justice for Shahriar Alam Samya’s murder, causing severe traffic congestion in the area since early morning. Led by central president Rakibul Islam, the demonstrators began their sit-in around 10 AM. Protesters expressed frustration over the authorities’ failure to arrest the main accused and other suspects. "We’ve seen no visible progress in the investigation. The administration is playing a hide-and-seek game with us," said Rakibul.

After more than a week of protests, the High Court cleared the way for BNP leader Ishraque Hossain to be sworn in as Mayor. His supporters celebrated the ruling with a victory march but declared they would not leave the streets until two advisers—Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam—resign. Ishraque had previously stated that despite the favorable verdict, he would not assume office unless the advisers step down.

Sarjis Alam has questioned the fairness of the judicial process, stating that under the current regime, powerful individuals with political backing secure bail easily, while oppressed citizens remain imprisoned. “Many innocent Islamic scholars are still entangled in false charges related to the Shapla Square incident, while those with known criminal records have secured bail,” he wrote. Sarjis criticized the justice system for failing to deliver a single verdict nine months after mass killings allegedly carried out under direct orders. He posed a pointed question: “Can Asif Nazrul, as Legal Adviser, truly avoid responsibility? Should we not demand his resignation?”

Around 30 leaders of the Kishoreganj District Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, led by Joint Convener Md. Mashrafee Mortoza, have joined Chhatra Dal. Mortoza, who identifies as a believer in nationalist ideology, said he was appointed Joint Convener due to his contributions during the July–August uprising. “We have resigned and joined the Chhatra Dal to work under its ideals,” he said.

BNP leaders and activists staged an overnight sit-in at Kakrail intersection in front of Jamuna, demanding that party leader Ishraq Hossain be appointed as the new DSCC mayor. The protest began Wednesday evening under Ishraq’s leadership, resulting in a total traffic halt across Hair Road, Matsya Bhaban, and Circuit House areas. Protesters said they would maintain the demonstration until the high court's verdict on Thursday. "If the ruling goes against us, we will launch tougher movements," Ishraq warned, adding, “I will not leave until the demand is met.”

BNP leader Dr. Abdul Moin Khan has issued a stern warning to the interim government, urging it to uphold democracy and press freedom or face being forgotten in history. “We believe in freedom of the press. Just look at the state of journalism during the past 16 years under Awami League,” he said.

He reminded the public that the National Press Club was established by President Ziaur Rahman, symbolizing media independence. “Reform, elections, and democracy are not mutually exclusive. They must exist together,” Moin Khan stressed, calling for unity while rejecting authoritarianism.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col. (Retd.) Dr. Oli Ahmed has urged the interim government to act as a government for all Bangladeshis, not merely as representatives of the National Consensus Platform (NCP). Speaking to the press, he alleged that India has always sought a favorable government in Dhaka—from Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the current ruling party—and even claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was involved in the assassination of President Ziaur Rahman.

He also warned the interim authority not to unilaterally decide on humanitarian corridors or other major policies without wider consultation, saying it could backfire politically.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has accused Nurul Haque Nur of causing disruption at their office after allegedly pressuring officials to award a contract to a preferred contractor. DNCC says Nur phoned Additional Chief Engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman on May 18, threatening to lock down the office if his demands weren't met.

In response, Nur and the Gano Adhikar Parishad denied the allegations, claiming the real issue was the administration's refusal to award a contract to the highest bidder—one of their members—without demanding a commission. They further alleged that DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz is linked to the banned outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir and is unfit to hold such a sensitive post.

Police have arrested three more suspects in connection with the murder of Shahriar Alam Samyo, a Dhaka University student and Chhatra Dal leader. The arrests were made on Tuesday night, though the suspects’ identities have not yet been disclosed. Earlier, three individuals were arrested on May 14 in the same case. Samyo, a student of the Institute of Education and Research (2018–19 session), was stabbed to death at Suhrawardy Udyan.

Speaking at a protest rally in Kakrail, Ishraq Hossain said, “The Election Commission is a sovereign institution—its decisions must be respected.” Expressing disappointment, he said that even after forming a new party, parts of the group remain aligned with the current regime, preventing a truly neutral government. He accused the government of conspiring to obstruct BNP’s participation in elections and interfering with the judiciary. “Can we expect fair elections under such a regime? Do we want another authoritarian government?” he asked, demanding the resignation of advisers Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam.

BNP leader Abdus Salam has demanded that Ishraque Hossain be immediately installed as mayor. “For the past seven days, Dhaka city BNP leaders have been demanding that Ishraque assume the mayoral role. Why is the government pushing the country toward uncertainty over a simple matter?” he asked. “A few advisers should not cause the government to fail,” he warned. “The court has ruled, the Election Commission has published the gazette. So whose interest is being hurt by Ishraque assuming office?” Salam said the EC gazette is still valid, questioning why the mayoral handover has not happened. He also slammed plans to lease Chattogram port to foreign companies and establish a humanitarian corridor for the Rohingya, calling them betrayals of national sovereignty.

Bagchas convener Abu Bakr Mojumder has issued a three-point demand: no national election should be held before student union elections; all vice-chancellors, proctors, and administrative officials appointed or nominated through Mirza Fakhrul Islam and Wahiduddin Mahmud must resign before Eid-ul-Adha; and a clear roadmap for student union elections across educational institutions and campuses must be declared. He warned that if these demands are not met, the movement will escalate beyond campuses to the streets. “A national election will not take place before student union elections,” he asserted.

NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwari accused several advisers of aligning with BNP interests, stating, “Asif Nazrul is stalling the July Declaration — betraying the blood of the people. Without issuing the declaration, you won’t be able to remain in the country.” Patwari warned that advisers acting as BNP spokespeople would be forced to resign. He specifically named Economic Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud and Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, accusing them of working to destabilize Bangladesh’s economy. He also claimed the Legal Adviser is trying to dismantle the Ministry of Law. Patwari added that without reconstituting the Election Commission, NCP will not allow any elections, accusing the current EC of acting as a BNP office. “BNP talks big using Awami League’s money,” he said, claiming that BNP has even shut down city corporation offices using those funds. “The Mujib-era constitution will not be tolerated,” he declared.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has dismissed a case filed against BNP leader Mirza Abbas over alleged irregularities in the allocation of a government plot. The case, filed on March 6, 2014, accused Abbas and three others of unlawfully allocating a seven-acre plot in Mirpur-8 to the Dhaka Journalists' Cooperative Society in 2006, during his tenure as Housing and Public Works Minister. The decision brings an end to years of legal proceedings against the senior BNP leader.
